When I first saw this piece of work, I thought it was something from Journey, the video game, where you explore a desert-like landscape, playing as a hooded wanderer.
So basically, I don't really have any words to describe how awesome this is. And also, congrats on the DD, you really deserved it.

The strokes on this gives it a cartoon-ish look, yet the lighting keeps it as a semi-realistic-ish style

I have the process of one work -- maybe that'll help? :l
I kinda use photos as a base colour and just go for it with the lasso afterwards ^^
just do what feels right ^^

But seriously, amazing work! It reminds me of the asian rice paper arts (You can literally google images "Asian Rice Paper Art" to see what I mean lol)
I love the large amounts of tone and different brush types in the composition, it gives an amazing sense of wonder that goes well with the environment.
You could try add a very thinish darker hue to the darkest points of shadow/shadow overlap, it might make it jump out or define it a bit more. (Sorry, you can throw this advice away if you don't like it ._.)
All in all amazing new technique! Lots of layering and mark making in this piece!

Hmm yeah I know what you mean with the values, I already tried separating the different layers of distance a bit but I guess I could work on it some more next time ^^
Values are one of my biggest enemies right now xD so you're probably right; keep giving advise
Actually there are just 2 brushes I used, the rest is just lasso tool .O. which is not really a tool I use a lot, but its a very powerful tool

Ah the lasso tool, I only really use that to cut some layers and put them on top of each other and then change the layer mode to multiply or luminosity or something xD
Sometimes I just duplicate layers and change the value.
Another interesting trick is if you make a ton of brush marks everywhere as a layer, and then put that at the top of all your other layers as overlay.
It looks pretty cool as a finishing touch.

Hmm yeah overlay is a cool effect ^^ I actually used that on this one too, though I had to readjust the saturation at some points because it easy to overdo it :U

This is really beautifull story about Little Prince and his rose. The story shows what is true love and friendship, and also shows the differences between the world of adults and children. I really recommend it!
