Description
Warning: contains some dark thingsWhen I was a kid, I've always liked playing this game called Pokémon Solstice, and it came out around the time that pokemon sapphire and ruby came out. In the front of the little box would be a legendary pokemon named Soltariar, a grass/Dragon type with blade-like arms and a dragon like body, much like the pokemon in black in white.
I'm not really great at describing its appearance that well, so all I can say is that it looked awesome.
Anyways, I got this game when I was only 8 years old, when we had gameboy advances instead of Nintendo DS's which didn't come until years later. My team consisted of Flaremo, kitlet, pichu, and a ralts which they later evolved into Flarsolus, Catawl, Raichu, and Gardevoir. I always enjoyed catching the new pokemon in this game and using them for battles, though eventually I would always keep to my main team. The story was magnificent and the characters in the story were unforgettable, even the rival was awesome!
I would always tell my friends about my awesome team and the battles I had, but they always shown confusion when I mentioned Flarsolus and Catawl, either asking me "what are Flarsolus and Catawl?" Or saying "Flarsolus and Catawl aren't real pokemon."
I found this odd but brushed it off, deciding that I should just show them instead.
When it was lunch time at school, I shown my gameboy, which I have snuck into my backpack, to my friends.
Many of them were amazed by not only the existence of this game but the pokemon inside it, while some were skeptical, calling it a bootleg. This caused me to be confused.
"What are you talking about? Aren't there any pokemon games like this one?" I asked.
They told me that they have never seen or heard any game like this, and that the majority of the new pokemon in my game didn't exist in their sapphire and ruby games.
I was absolutely baffled, but then decided to prove them wrong.
"Let's trade pokemon then. Let's see if it'll let me give you the new pokemon in my game!" I said.
We did so, and to everyone's surprise, one of my friends received the 'fake' pokemon. He tested it out in a battle and won! Everyone at our table started trying to trade some of these pokemon with their not so great pokemon, but then the bell rang, indicating that lunch was over.
For the past few weeks, I've been really popular at lunch for the unique pokemon I had. Every time I sat down to eat, a kid I didn't know came up to me, asking to trade their pokemon for my tabyloo or vidios. Of course my mom found out later that I have been taking my gameboy advanced with me so I was not only grounded but banned from taking it out of the house, so no one has ever seen my game again, well, except for Issac, who always came over and played games with me.
Nothing else really happened until I reached the end of my game. The last boss battle was, of course, Soltariar, the awesome dragon legendary I was talking about. There it was standing in all of its glory, in the lost forest of the sun, surrounded by chunks of stone that once belonged to the now destroyed temple.
A few moon beams peaked through the trees, creating a majestic and beautiful feel to this area. It got even better when the battle music for the pokemon started.
It was amazing.
The beast was huge and slightly intimidating, especially seeing its level at 75. I took a few deep breathes to calm my excitement before looking at the legendary's face.
The grim expression on Soltariar's face erased the amazement I held for that moment.
It's eyes looked... tired. Emotionally tired. Like it has witness so much that it... can't take it. And it's posture was slouched, not like how it was on the box, where it stood somewhat proudly. Of course, being a kid, I brushed it off, thinking that it always looked that way, but looking back at it... it felt really depressing...
I commanded my Flarsolus to use ember, which was critical against the dragon. The health bar lowered slightly and I knew... that this was gonna be hard. Soltariar's attack was... slow. Powerful, but slow... it almost seemed like it... hesitated. I ignored this and went two more rounds before it fainted my Flarsolus. I brought out my gardevoir who, for some reason, looked... worried.
I had her use a fairy type move, which was also super effective, but only lowered the health bar a little for the legendary.
"Darn!" I whispered, trying not to wake up my mother.
This went on for about ten minutes, with each of my pokemon fainting and being revived. But I noticed that with each one, they seemed sad. I didn't understand why they seemed hesitant to attack the legendary. I thought that my gameboy was acting up, but I realized that my own team and that legendary were acting up.
"Is this... supposed to happen?" I whispered to myself.
I tried getting its health bar low enough to capture it, and I succeeded. I started throwing different balls, hoping to capture it, But it kept getting out. I was getting frustrated, until I realized that the legendary wasn't attacking at all. In fact, it seemed... sadder than it was just moments ago.
I kepted throwing poke balls until I was up to my last one. The master ball.
I selected it, but before my character threw it, a text popped up.
'Soltariar has given up and has accepted its fate.'
I grinned a bit, believing that it would allow me to capture it. I watched as my character threw the master ball, watching it getting sucked in before-
"What!?" I yelled, before covering my mouth, listening for any signs of my mother stirring.
Soltariar broke free from the master ball with its head bowed, its arms resting at its sides. How the Hell did a pokemon escape a... master ball!? I felt infuriated until another text had popped up.
'Soltariar has submitted.'
I scoffed before tapping the run button, but the same text popped up.
'Soltariar has submitted.'
I was confused. Why can't I run? I decided to then press the attack button and selected moonblast for my attack, but Catawl didn't budge.
Her face held a sad frown, looking at the legendary.
I pressed the attack again.
She ignored me.
I then switched her with Raichu, who also held a frown. His head seemed to face the ground while his stance was slouched.
I commanded him to attack. And he did.
The health bar was empty, and the pokemon fell to its knees, using its blade arm to hold itself up. A text popped up.
'I just want to rest...'
Its body then collapsed.
'...'
I pressed a button to see if the text would continue. Nothing.
It was like that for a few minutes. I felt odd after seeing the legendary collapse on itself... seeing this all happen made me feel sick. A text popped up, only this one made my innards twist.
'Soltariar has died.'
I was shocked. I almost felt my eyes water. I-I killed it. I didn't mean for it to die! The screen then faded to black, before the forest area reappeared. Instead of the pokemon disappearing though, it laid there motionlessly, almost as if in a deep slumber. But I knew better.
I controlled my character to walk up to the pokemon and pressed A.
'Leave Soltariar to rest...'
'...you murderer.'
.....to be continued.
