Description
It was not for a witch like Adain to get herself lost, but on this particular evening while on her way back from her meeting with the coven the bus she was on had taken a wrong turn. The masked would have waited but the bus had one of it's tires punctured which forced the young witch to walk from the road and across a stone laden pavement in a search for another way to return home. She looked up at an old metal sign pointing to the right of the land, inscribed upon the blue paint laid the faded words of "Yharm". The witch had heard tales of Yharm, it was not a well regarded town according to many of her coven. They spoke of curses and strange people wandering around, there was even talk of these people worshiping foreign gods through blood sacrifices and cannibalism. Hopefully she would not have to experience that first hand, she thought as she made her way down into the strange town. One thing she noticed about the town was the amount of spires littering the tops of buildings, reaching up to the skies as if to communicate with whomever rested upon them. As she walked through the rather clean streets she also saw gargoyles on top of the roofs, but they were not of any creature that she had seen. The one connecting feature of these fluid grey forms was an unblinking single eye, she tried to avert her gaze but it felt like they were watching her every step. A chill ran down her spine as she rushed past a few of the misshapen people walking around, she had spent more than enough time in this strange place.
She had stumbled upon a good view of the town, perhaps she could see if there was any bus stop amongst the bending roads below. Instead she bore witness to a great bridge leading up to a treacherous mountain, a great palace had been erected on top of it and bore reddish-pink colours around it's walls. Her gaze was interrupted as a great warmth emanated from the space next to her, a pink circle appeared in the middle of the air before exploding into a great tear in the fabric of reality. A heavy bottomed woman clad in dark posh clothes stepped forth from the tear as it closed up, her reddish-pink hair slithered around her shoulders like tentacles as her large mouth snarled at this masked stranger.
"Who are you? Why do you intrude upon this town? A witch of your status should not be wandering around here, leave before I turn you into my next ornament!" The lady's voice boomed with fury, which made Adain take a few steps beck before she realised. She had heard that voice long ago, from a dear friend.
"Geg, is that you?" The witch asked, Geg's back arched as her mouth grew ever wider, exposing the sharp rows of teeth that were forming inside.
"How do you know my name?! What foul sorcery are you playing at, well I can do much worse!" She shouted, her hands burning with red energy. She was ready to subject this fiend to unimaginable torture for even having the gall to call her by her name. Adain quickly took her mask off, her face one of sheer panic.
"Wait, wait! It's me, Adain! Remember me? I was that witch at the circus?" Geg paused, the energy ebbed away and her mouth receded back to it's usual large grin. It took a few seconds to remember that joyous face, then everything came together in her mind.
"Huh, Adain? My god it really is you! My apologies, the townsfolk do not take too kindly to trespassers so I have to ward outsiders away. But you are welcome here, how long has it been now?" Geg rushed to hug her, wrapping her hands around Adain's back. It felt rather nice to embrace someone she thought she would never see again, and she held tight much to the witch's detriment.
"It's been ages, and your hugs are still as rough as ever. I can feel my ribs straining..." Adain squeaked, the lady released her hug and gave a slight chuckle.
"My bad." She gave a toothy grin towards the robed witch, it began to fade when she felt something small drop upon her tentacled head. She looked upwards and sighed to herself before snapping her fingers, causing another tear in the fabric of reality to open.
"Ah, it's spotting. It won't be long until this town is drenched in rain, do you fancy coming back with me to my place? Unless you've got somewhere else to go to..." Adain looked around, before looking back into the portal. If someone came out of a portal and invited her inside, it would be hard to assume that she would come back out again. But on the other hand she didn't want to go cold, wet and...hungry, she felt her stomach vibrate at the thought. Maybe she should have eaten that fungus pie before she went out, she thought.
"No, I'll take shelter over rain. Do you have anything to eat? I've walked all over this place and I am starving!" She moaned as the two stepped close to the portal, Geg looked to her and smiled.
"You came at a good time then, my servants are preparing my supper as we speak. You can help yourself to some of it." This was enough to make the young redhead witch smile, with a single step they entered the portal and as quickly as it had appeared it vanished. The two were whisked away to the big palace on top of the mountain, otherwise known as Geg's residence. Tonight would be a night they would never forget.
