Description
“We went out for dinner again. Dinner at TGIFriday’s again. She wanted to bring her friend again, the friend that I know has a crush on her. They always seem to have a fun time whenever they are around. It’s amusing to watch them laugh and make insider jokes to each other. They have a lot of interesting topic to talk about, most of them I’m not even familiar with. I didn’t complain at all. I just wanted to be in a social group from time to time.“ They continue to chat throughout dinner time. I remained quiet, almost a bit distant. I just nosh on some of the appetizer nachos as we wait for the main coarse. They drink and laugh and fool around. I remain still and quiet, almost like a fly on the wall. They know that I’m there with them, but I mostly look at myself as the small break in the conversation or if one of them goes to the bathroom and the other talks to me for a while.
“ I really don’t know what to say in their conversations since they have a longer friendship history than I do with my friend. I feel like if I say anything out of context, I would look like an idiot, or like a small baby bird trying to chirp in a group of older birds.
I just wait until dinner is done and I will pay the check…”

I know that feel... Got a double dose of said feel when I became invisible to two of my cousins the moment their boyfriends dropped by. Didn't help that I didn't think too highly of their choices of partner...

Definitely been in situations like this. It stinks feeling like an oddball amongst friends.

I'm (virtually) sure that everyone has gone through something like this at least once in their lifetime...It's a very awkward uncomfortable situation that you (as usual) described very well

Same situation yesterday.
A friend of mine invited me to come to an animation festival until 6 o'clock in the morning. I only knew him, the other was foreign to me, and they seemed to know long ago. Finally, the shorts were great, but I was uncomfortable when I gone home ^^ "

Yeah, I think everyone goes through a bit of that. Remember that you can't be best friends with everyone, or a part of every group.

oh, man I can totally relate to this. it doesn't really make me sad, but more of just feeling like it's unfortunate and a shame *thoughtful sigh*
