Description A comparison set of my first two customs in comparison to my two newest ones. It’s been a year of customizing and I can definitely say my skill level has grown a lot. It’s pretty interesting comparing these two since they’re on pretty different spectrums of my customising.

Vinyl Scratch first was made from a Rarity a friend got me for my birthday and it just required some glasses and a rehair for me to customise her. It was pretty simple and within my skill range. New!Scratch was basically a stock pony with a horn transplant and sculpted hair. Pretty basic modifications, but even then you can see why I chose sculpted hair over rehairing. It was too difficult to find hair in the right shape, too difficult to rehair them and too difficult to style it, so I moved onto sculpting. However, it required minimal painting and colour changing.

Octavia on the other hand was a bit more of an involved custom, for either version. Both needed full body repaints, de-horning and sculpted bow ties. However, you can see with my first version, I did *not* use an image reference which I think makes the custom suffer a lot more than to the one in which I studied multiple images and had the picture on hand to colour match better. Also, I think it better shows how much I rather show accuracy over brushable hair since I find brushable hair slightly difficult to maintain.

Anyways, things I learnt from this year of customizing?

-Never give up trying. There is *always* room to improve and you can always start over.
-Read as many tutorials as you can. Study others’ customs and their methods to give you fresh perspectives.
-Use references. Use all the references you can, to better make sure your pony is as recognisable and well done as you can make it.
-Don’t be afraid to experiment. Try ore extreme modifications. Try different paint techniques. Try different paint styles.
-Most of all, do it for your enjoyment and don’t let what others may think. Because if you’re willing, your skill will grow.
