A detective at the Valentine Detective Agency, Basil is incredibly effective and efficient when it comes to his work—leaving no stone unturned in the search for clues and no detail left forgotten—he will stop at nothing to ensure that a client is happy, often disappearing for weeks or even months at a time. He accepts all cases given to him with glee, but he is still careful to be respectful towards the client and the possible victim(s). To strangers (and in particular criminals), Basil seems to know more than he's letting on, but in truth, he just has good intuition.
Now if only he could be so enthusiastic about writing case reports... He drives Ellie up the wall most days regarding turning them in on time (or even remembering to do ANY other paperwork), but all is forgiven when they have been completed. Despite the nagging, his written work is concise and clear.

Appearing outgoing and upbeat, Basil always makes sure his opinion can be heard, even if it puts him in a difficult situation. One's first impression upon meeting him would be that he has something deeply wrong with him, and although they aren't wholly incorrect, it does give others a bit of a skewed first impression. He has trouble sitting still and gets distracted too quickly for his own good.
Basil is helpful to a fault, risking life and limb to help just about anybody who asks for his help, whether they've asked him directly or went to the agency. HELL, he might even decide your case is worth dying trying to complete just because he likes the look of you and for free, no less. He has absolutely zero self-preservation, which only worsens after finding out he's a synth—at which point, the line between recklessness and suicidality becomes unfathomably blurred. Often gets warned by Nick and Ellie about taking on increasingly dangerous cases, unfortunately, their warnings fall on deaf ears.

Deep down, however, Basil is cynical and introverted. Though he gets along with everybody easily, he does not quickly trust others and prefers the company of people he is already familiar with. He is deeply insecure, and though he tries his best to hide it, it's incredibly obvious to the people he surrounds himself with.
Basil isn't an entirely honest individual either. Although he will not straight-up lie, he will do his best to dance around the truth as much as possible, especially if the topic of conversation is about him and where he is from. He does not lie maliciously and will never lie about anything dangerous or while on the job.

When he's not working (or trying to avoid doing paperwork), he can almost always be found at a bar. He's always enjoyed the occasional drink, but ever since discovering his identity as a synth, it has become something of an addiction, although far be it from Basil to admit that.
