The Aglidica Innovations Corporation (AIC) was a corporation that was established sometime after humanity colonized its 3rd planet. It was created with the intent of bringing humanity to the peak of its potential in all tangible aspects; a vision made feasible by the seemingly endless resources in store. In the year 3428, the AIC Research and Development department claimed that their scientists had made a breakthrough in time-manipulation. The vessel they had developed, christened "ATAC-1," was equipped with the experimental Temporal Distortion Drive. The process began with the ATAC-1 making a series of tight, high velocity loops, eventually reaching FTL speeds. While maintaining this speed, the ship would activate the Temporal Distortion Drive, which generated a Tachyon Particle Field.. This had the two-fold effect of shielding the ATAC from interdimensional forces and preventing the ship from crashing into itself while performing its FTL loops. Finally, the ATAC used a modified Mass Manipulator to increase its mass to an astronomical level, essentially becoming a gravitational singularity. The combination of the ATAC's controlled FTL loops and heavy spacetime distortion would create a narrow incision in the temporal dimension, allowing the vessel to drop out of its influence and choose a new "time-zone" at the command of it's pilot. However, when the increase in mass occurred, the Temporal Distortion Drive faulted and the affected portion of the temporal dimension was violently torn instead of neatly punctured. The outcome was a massive release in cosmic energy, followed by the absorption of 300 local stars, 15 of which contained colonized planets. All 3 crew members aboard the ATAC and the entire survey team, stationed in orbit around nearby Kolnami III, perished in the cosmic storm. Colonist casualties were massive, and a cover-up story was provided, sparing AIC. After about a month and a half, the rift stabilized, but rendered any sort of space travel or habitation impossible for a large radius.
