Description 15 million years ago, on the plains of Argentina, two Kelenken are fighting for a mate. These 10 foot tall Terror Birds become hyper aggressive in the breeding season, as they engage in brutal combat to impress any approaching females. Through a series of bites from their axe-like beak, along with many kicks and slashes from their sickle-shaped claws, the two males wear each other down. The female watches on in curiosity. If both males back out due to exhaustion or their injuries, the female will leave the scene, making their efforts worthless. They have no choice but to continue until one of them backs down or collapses from exhaustion. The smaller male makes a desperate attempt to grasp the larger male’s leg to set him off balance, but the large male stabs his sickle claws into the other’s neck, and pins him through the ground. The smaller male, exhausted, gives in and stays in the ground, a sign of submission and a time to rest after a long and bloody struggle. The victor holds his head high, and invites the female to come closer. She accepts, holding her head high in alignment, as they begin a ritualistic courtship dance to begin the mating process, leaving the defeated Kelenken lying in the grass. If he can survive the coming few days, maybe he will have better luck in next breeding season.
