Description
I think more people should consider 3D logos because it can be rendered and postworked to be a 2D logo but it can also be rendered to be a 3D logo which can be textured and lighted in many different ways. Also, the nature of 3D modeling allows VFX effects to be easily applied and the logo can be animated as well. I made this sample as an illustration of versatility that a 3D logo provides.

Both of them are from the same 3D logo model but rendered and processed differently. The first one is rendered with transparent background in flat lgihting and the background is added on it as a composite. The second one is a 3D render with a textured background and an angled lighting.
