Here is a collection of steel cabooses that began replacing their wooden brethren in the early 1930s onward. In the front is a Southern Pacific end cupola caboose made by Lionel in the 1950s or 60s. To the left is a Pere Marquette end cupola caboose made by Athearn. In the second row is a Santa Fe center cupola made by Life-Like in the 1990s (one of only two original cabooses I had as a kid). Next is another Athearn kit of a bay window caboose for the Southern Railway (US one). Next is a Louisville and Nashville wide vision caboose. So called because the cupola was wider than the caboose body to aid in visibility. It was made by Roco. And finally we have another center cupola caboose made by Hobbyline in the mid 1950s. Regards.
