Only a few very powerful Kalku (evil sorcerer) can become a Chonchon- by smearing a magical salve around their neck on a moonless night, their head detaches from their body and transforms into a terrible flying monster. In this form they perform wicked deeds such as feeding on the blood of sleeping people.
