Raye just reached out and slapped it, a gesture akin to touching gloves in the octagon. A measure of respect.

“Yep.   I nearly got you last time and I didn’t know what the hell I was doing.   Now that’s changed.”

“I remember and was hoping not to find you on my side of the bracket, yet here we are. You’re in my way for something I want.”

“Yeah, sort of how I see you too. No hard feelings when you go down like the rest of them.”

It was good natured banter as they circled, the sort you’d expect between the friends.

“The rest of them? As I recall there has been a loss or two on your record since last we met.”

“One. To Allison and everyone loses to her so … “

“Not everyone!” Vikki smiled at her reminding her Allison had one loss in her column too.

Raye straightened up and actually laughed with that.

“Ok, you got me with that one.   Let’s go to work on your second loss, then.”

“If you think you can, lets go.”

There was a pause. The sort of pause that indicated they both knew the time for talking was done. They got serious and circled once before they both started to probe a bit looking for an opening in the other’s defenses.
