Description
The social differences of Brazil being reflected and shown in a single photo. This one illustrates a huge problem of my country: there are many slums in our cities, and they happen everywhere.
These unusual urban occupation of the urban space are often near the noble neighborhoods, and people are really poor. Here in Brazil we have to live with enormous economic differences between people almost always. There are people in the streets asking for money, lots of homeless people and criminality. It's interesting to think that the only difference between them is only the side they were born, although they have completely different lifes... Interesting thing to think about. We have to get used to have our cars "taken care" by people in streets (anywhere you park your car there is always a person asking for money to look at your car to see if someone would steal it, when it's more probable that the "street security guards" themselves do that), to see slums and people living with awful conditions, to see poorness every corner...
It's also interesting to see the picture in a different perspective. Try to hide with your hand one of the sides of the picture then the other, and see that there's almost two worlds colliding there, side by side, even the clouds are separated if you notice. I doubt that one could tell they are that close if they weren't at the same photo.
I present to you people, the third world.

A very well deserved DD! It has both meaning and is visually quite pleasing. The artist's comment makes it even deeper, just scratching one of the world's biggest problems, or at least in the developing countries and those in Eastern Europe - lack of middle class and the enormous gap between rich and poor.
Great perspective, thanks for sharing!

I live in a really snobby and rich neighborhood, but I came from a really poor family. The people I'm surrounded by don't even appreciate what the have

To some, this may ring true - to some, this may only sicken, so, to the first, responses are welcome - to the second, responses are not. After all, I've lived homeless, myself - so I'm not interested in how lower-middle-class I am and what contempt you hold for me.
First, Brazil is not third-world. It may qualify as second, but it is far, far away from qualifying as third-world. If you're not sure, look it up before you flame me, and even then - remember that homeless and starving is nothing new to us first-worlders. Check yourself before you check me, because I'll tolerate nothing more than excellence in a true intellectual opponent - whom may come from any class of citizen or non-citizen, as you see it.
That having been said - such a division of rich and poor exists even here on my native USA soil. Neighborhoods that run from the extraordinarily wealthy have a distinct dividing line with the neighborhood next door, which houses the destitute. I've seen it before. I've been there before. Sometimes, the distinction serves society - in terms of art and philosophy, What would "The Blues" be, if not written by someone who has nothing left but music? Sometimes, this eliteism hurts society, as many folks with incredible potential are passed by for the mediocre, simply because the mediocre has more money.
The Fable is this: Be you rich or poor, never be mediocre. If being poor hurts, scream it out for the world to hear. If being rich makes you feel good, take the less fortunate by the hand and lead them to a better tomorrow. If you're middle-class, like me, then work your ass off to do better for everyone. If you do this, you will never lay on your death bed, wondering what more you could have done with your life.
Use this picture as inspiration.

You weaved wisely here, I must say.
What I must say is that we are not going anywhere discussing about the social differences in first world in comparison with the third or second. We all know that it does exist everywhere, but the thing is that it is more accentuated and exaggerated in the less developed countries. I'm not here to put Brazil on the lowest stage of development, its economy is not that bad and it is obvious that there are plenty other countries that are on a worse situation, but you need to agree that there are a lot of others that are better.
"Third world" is just a label, doesn't matter if it is called "Second", "First" or "Third", the main thing here is all about the rich and the poor. Middle class is the one that really supports all (or almost all) the economies in the world, so lets focus on the extremes. It's not a new thing to anyone that starving and homeless happens everywhere, or in almost everywhere. But you can read on the comments and you'll see that this thin line between rich and poor happens a lot more often on the poor countries, or less developed. If you could get a car and drive a bit around here, in half an hour you should have passed like three or fours slums, seeing clearly that they are slums, all in the middle of the noble areas. Another important thing to point out is that the differences between the two classes are much bigger on these countries, talking about, of course, the majority of the people, not being stick on a few groups.
This thing you said about the mediocre is absolutely right. Judgement nowadays is everywhere all the time, and you'll be better judged by the others simply because you have more money and that's all.
You said something about the rich taking the less fortunate by the hand. This is what should happen, but now that you're saying I must point out something relevant. On the poor countries, the rich don't have this kind of mentality and they never help the less fortunate, or if they do, they do to take car of their image and status. Only a few do this just because they think they should, and I really think that it happens much more often on most developed countries, although I'm saying this just knowing one side of the coin.
I hope I could make my English understandable with this and I'm sorry for the late reply.

And what a world it is. I expect farmlands when I cover up the left side. And I expect big monuments and taller skyscrapers when I cover the right... wow. It is indeed hard to think that these two really meet this way, that there's no neutral zone where they kind of mesh. It's just straight up city meets suburbs .
