Ranger was brought up in a very unhealthy household. An abusive mother and an alcoholic father who was never home. He grew up very fast, learning the ins and outs of adult life at a young age. The day he turned 15, he was out of that house and out on the streets, being taken in by a lovely elderly inkling named Naideen. She kept him off the streets while he aged, earning his respect for those four years he stayed.
Once finally able to go off on his own, he got himself an apartment and enjoyed some well deserved peace of mind. Being able to do what he wanted without being beaten for every wrong move was a god send. That was until he decided one night that he was to walk on the beach, feeling the freedom in his toes, running into Annabel, who looked nothing like a normal inkling or octoling for that matter.
She was really off putting at first, but once they got to know each other better, they started re-counting tales of their childhood. They found similarities in their stories which only brought them closer together, eventually realizing the growing feelings Ranger was harbouring. That brings us to now.
TL;DR Ranger was beaten as a child so he ran away when he finally had enough of their crap. He was taken in by a nice old lady who took care of him until he was of legal age to be out on the streets. He later encounters Annabel and they become besties really fast.

Side note. I made the change to his hair to make him seem younger than before. I just feel like he looked to old for what I want to portray him as. I did also make him 2 years younger, same reason as before.
