The baton that was a Doge's symbol of authority and a prayer book concealing a small pistol.
As I mentioned earlier, Francesco Morosini was a controversial figure who had enemies, especially among the senate and the Venetian aristocracy. He was afraid of conspiracies and potential assassination attempts, which is why he modified his prayer book to hide a small pistol just in case.
(My apologies. I was thinking of taking a close up photo of the prayer book, but in the end I didn't bother to do it).
