Adquisition:

The frame was originally found by reclaimers of San Juan in a pre-skydeath city. Only the torso, shield and left arm were intact, along parts of the head. The reclaimers were ambushed by shades when the painted ceiling collapsed, killing the hostile entities without harming the reclaimers.

When the rubble was removed, an image, originally painted on the ceiling, was transferred over to the shield. This was taken as sign of a miracle.

The image portrays a forgotten deity from an old world religion vanquishing an evil creature. Oddly enough, the evil creature is humanoid. The shield itself displays unparalleled efficiency in it's KCA systems, which could not be replicated. Because the artisans of the mobile city cannot discard the possibility that the image itself is responsible for this effect they carefully repaint it after each battle.

Currently, "Categorical Imperative" is in active service. Requests to pull it out of service for further study have been denied on the grounds of maintaining morale.
