Description
The Zebesian Giant Squirrel was endemic to the forest biomes of Brinstar on the planet Zebes. Unfortunately, the squirrel was not one of the species that managed to escape the planet's destruction. That's what was commonly believed, until footage captured by satellite of similarly sized squirrels on Ratatos IX fueled speculation that the species had been transported prior to the destruction of Zebes. A bounty was placed on the live capture of a giant squirrel.
Samus Aran landed on the planet about six months ago, searching for a live specimen. About five day cycles (approximately 40 Earth hours) into her visit, an extreme weather event destroyed all satellites currently orbiting the planet.
four months ago, a group of contractors visited Ratatos IX to replace the satellites. A support team on the surface reported seeing many human-sized squirrels, but were unable to capture any due to their incredible speed, agility, and senses.
All of the squirrels appeared ordinary in morphology, except for one elusive one that the only two witnesses claim has the appearance of a human-squirrel hybrid wearing a torn bodysuit. A damaged Hunter-class spacecraft was sighted from orbit. Investigation found most systems failed, logs irretrievable, and supplies missing.
A research team arrived on the planet last month but was unable to find the rumored hybrid or retrieve a non-hybrid specimen. However, a unique form of symbiosis has been observed between the nut-bearing trees and a newly discovered type of fungus growing in their fruit. Samples have been retrieved for further study.
The bounty is currently still active.
