Sadly it's because a small group of people complained that Derpy was an insulting character since they see her as making fun of people with mental and/or physical disabilities. :/
I say she was just clumsy but either way removing her or rather changing her shows that people like Derpy are not accepted by society. In my opinion that is not how it should be. I don't blame Hasbro or MLP; I blame those that overreacted to Derpy and forced her to be changed.

As far as I know there was but overall I believe the petition meant nothing since hasbro up and decided they didn't want a huge incident on their hands so they immediately canned Derpy.
Now in "The Last Roundup" her voice is different, her eyes are now like every other pony and her name was edited out. It made me sad watching it on the hub today and realizing how far they have gone.
Again I don't blame them since they are just trying to avoid an incident and instead I blame the people that overreacted about it.
I believe they are the same ones that have overreacted to such things as Jynx from Pokemon forcing Jynx to be redone in purple instead of black.

Well, derpy wasnt really removed. They modified the deatails (changed contact lenses) and made her less... Derpy. I was pretty offended of derpy myself Not from being short minded. Because she was pretty steriotypical. I mean really. Thats like making fun of my brother who has autism. besides derpy is now part of the internet meaning shes an indestructable piece of the internet and will forever be happy eating her favorite muffins besides uncle hooves (dr. Hooves) besides x2 why wait for Hasbro to never make derpy's adventures if YOU can? Lazy bumms

I don't think she's is offensive and I have autism and I'm dyspraxic too so I am clumsy as well.
When she is clumsy, I won't lie, it is amusing, but we're laughing WITH her not at her. As fans, we accept her for who she is, she doesn't need changing because we accept that she looks and acts a little different.
You can't just remove a character because they have traits that could point towards a certain condition that are used in a comedic way. Twilight has some OCD traits and Pinkie Pie has ADHD tendencies but they're not removed and neither should they be.
If anything, Derpy's inclusion in the show is a sign of acceptance so getting rid of her is taking a few steps back.

I didn't mean that they should have removed her. I didn't like that they removed her but no ones crying now because she never left. Plus she re-appeared in magical mystery cure. Pretty cool of her

What really depresses me is not just that they took Derpy off the show, but that, if the show continues to run for a few more years...people will start forgetting her completely.

I don't think Derpy will ever disappear or be forgotten. Personal I think she will go down in history as one of the greats of animation, if nothing else for the fact that she was named and given characterization by the fans. All in all if we keep loving Derpy she will always be remembered.
