Description
A spooky version of the blue blur for the spooky season.
Wasting is not a demon, ghost, virus or other entity copying Sonic's visage; rather, he is Sonic, specifically from Sonic 1.
Running at such high speeds so often has caused his metabolism to kick into overdrive, causing his body to waste away like a spawning salmon.
Yet, despite being physically dead, the player's button inputs, which Wasting was programmed to always follow, keep him moving along; however, he has no free will and no personality, simply being a hollow puppet controlled by the player.

Last night I was reading about "zombie salmon", which are salmon that exerted so much energy to get to their place of spawning during a salmon run that they literally start degrading and falling apart, giving them a "zombified" appearance. I thought that such an idea would fit with Sonic, seeing as how he (presumably) exerts a lot of energy to run at the speed of sound. In addition to this, Wasting also takes some inspiration from another creepy Sonic-derived character, Genesys, or rather the burnt Sonic accompanying him, particularly when it comes to the part about Wasting being a hollow husk puppeteered by outside forces.
Fun fact, his name was originally supposed to be "Wasted", but I decided against it because that's also slang for being high on drugs.
