Description Autumn sat in his living room, book in hand and reading glasses sitting perfectly on his face as his eyes scanned over the words that decorated the page, it was a warm afternoon, the light from outside filled the room with a pleasant warmth. Just the right type of atmosphere for reading a good book. The deer shapeshifter was so entranced in their novel that they hadn't taken notice of the anxious looking yellow dog that was watching them from the doorway of the lounge.

Rusty wasn't sure how long they had been standing in the doorway of the lounge for, but he was certain that at this point, it had been a while. He sighed quietly and then leaned against the wall, rubbing tiredly at his face and then pulling at his cheek with a groan

"Mr. Rusty?" A voice spoke up from his side and Rusty jumped. "Jesus!" He whisper yelled to himself as he threw his gaze to his right and saw none other then Autumns adopted son Walter, standing less then a few paces from him. The curios child cocked his head to the side "What are you doing Mr. Rusty?" He inquired

Rusty nervously scratched at his neck as he shoved one of his hands into his black hoodie pocket "Nothin' I...just thinking, don't worry about it.."

The younger dog hummed and rose his brow. Mister Rusty had been living with him and his dad for the past 6 months now, his farther Autumn had been helping Mister Rusty through some of his struggles - Walter hadn't been told what it was mister Rusty was struggling with, but his farther assured him that they were helping Ruben (apparently that was Mister Rusty's real name) get himself back on the right road again.

"You look nervous...Did I, do something wrong?"

"What?!" Rusty quickly kneeled down by Walter and gave his best reassuring smile "No! Nonono! Walter you, you didn't do anythin' little buddy! I'm just.." Rusty paused for a moment, thinking over his thoughts and trying to construct them into words. Walter waited silently.

"...Hey uhm, Walter.." Rusty suddenly had an idea, and he looked to Walter with a mildly serious look "You know how..when a two people love each other very much they, sometimes, move into the same house and..live together?" Walter nodded his head with a small 'mhm' "Its called marriage Mister Rusty." He said formally like a young adult rather then a child

"Right right! Uhm.." Rusty's anxiety about this whole conversation suddenly settled on his gut, he cleared his throat awkwardly to try and not look like an idiot "L-Look-" damn to hell he stuttered "...Look, Walter. I've, been living with you and your dad for a while now haven't I?"

"Yes Mister Rusty!" Walter smiled innocently

"And well...How would you feel if I lived here for.." he nervously gulped "..Forever?”

Walter blinked and went quite suddenly, he hummed and his ear flicked, something he did when he was thinking really hard. "Well...dad seems happy with you, and..I'm happy with you around! Yeah! I wouldn't mind if you lived here forever!" He gasped and suddenly excitedly grabbed Rusty's paw "We could get bunk beds!"

Rusty couldn't help but give a huff of laughter in amusement at little Walter's innocence...but now came the hard part. Rusty inhaled deeply and then slowly exhaled, trying to calm his racing mind and the stork of nerves that was raging inside him. "Uhm..Walter.." Rusty pulled out a small black leather box from his hoodie pocket, glancing at it nervously he then extended his hand to Walter

Still just as curious, and still not understand the whole situation, Walter carefully held the box in his hands and inspected it with a studying gaze. Rusty cleared his throat for what felt like the fifth time "Walter...how would you, er...what I'm trying to say is, w-well...how would..you f-feel if.."

Finally, Walter popped open her box and stared wide eyed at a small golden ring "oooooo!" He didn't dare take it out of the box in fear that he may drop it or accidentally loose it

"How would..you feel if I..Uhm, asked to marry your dad?"

Finally. He had said it. For a moment his anxiety and nerves were washed away like the tide and - even if just for a brief moment - his tight chest relaxed and he felt as if he could finally breath again!
He let out a small sigh, one that he wasn't sure how long he had been holding in, but that release, that wave of sudden calmness, it was a blessing in that moment.

...However, when Walter continued to stare wide eyed in shocked silence, a sudden chill of fear ran up his spine and the fear began to creep its way back, the storm of worry rising back to life once more with even more destruction. His throat felt tight "W-Walter..." no response

Oh god, had he pushed his luck?! Was it too soon?! God sake what was he thinking!! Asking a kid for, what the hell could Walter say?! I mean - Yeah Rusty knew that Walter was academically more intelligent then most young boys his age, but- For fuck sake why did he have to dump such a question on a boy?!

With the corners of his eyes stinging with fresh tears Rusty lifted a trembling yellow paw "B-Buddy? You..please say some-"

Rusty was suddenly tackled backwards as Walter threw himself at his middle in a blur, the force was so great that when Rusty hit the floor it sounded out a horrid 'thud' noise as his back hit the floor of the hallway "OOF!" He yelled out accidentally, and the noise caused the very deer in the arm chair to finally peer over.

"Yes yes yes yes yes!!" Walter squealed in pure happiness with his little tail rapidly wagging back and fourth. Rusty blinked in surprise as he forced himself up into his elbows, he peered down at his stomach to see Walter clinging round him like a baby koala bear, a bright smile beamed across his face. Rusty made a sound that was half happy sob half chuckle as he enthusiastically scooped Walter up into his arms and returned the hug.

"Well you two seem awfully happy!" Autumn commented as he walked over and kneeled down by Ruben and his son, helping Ruben sit up slightly and smiling down at his son when he peered up at him "What has you two so ecstatic all of a sudden?" He inquired with a small huff of laughter.

Sorry for lazy background but my back is aching and I've just finished the drawing for the story 'First meeting' I spent way too much time on the background

So I feel a lot better after taking some time off from posting, I could just draw and I didn't feel stressed to post art for everyone on here. Thank you all for being so patient and waiting for me to come back, I feel ready to start posting again, however I still have quite a few drawing ideas and I still have to finish writing a few stories - so I'm still going to be pretty busy.

Here we have a new Zoophobia drawing for the story Blessing. Happens a few years after this -

A little back story info on Rusty: Rusty's parents weren't exactly good parents, his farther was out of his life since he was small and his mother died when he was small. Rusty spent most of his childhood with his elderly grandparents, but in their old age it wasn't long before their time soon came and they too passed. Rusty is all alone in the big scary world of Safe Haven once he graduates, and he falls into some bad scenarios. In his time through ZPA Rusty struggles with his sexuality and the fact that he maaaaaaaaaaaaaay like a certain orange haried doe - he starts a relationship with Brandi to prove to himself he most certainly isn't crushing on that nerd! Alas the feelings only grow stronger and Rusty eventually leaves Brandi and Kelly, who he temporarily took in as his daughter when he lived wit Brandi. With no roof to live under and no stable job Rusty is soon pulled into drinking when he realises his poor and horrific life choices. One particular night he is thrown out of one of Safe Haven's bars for causing a fight, he gains a purple eye that night, and Autumn and his adopted son Walter happen to stumble into him. Rusty stays the one night but leaves the next day, but returns a few days later to properly thank Autumn and (while red faced and very embarrassed) apologise. The three of them end up going to the park for lunch, and Rusty and Autumn get on good terms. It's eventually Autumn who offers Rusty to live with them until he finds a stable job, and Rusty does. he opens up a mechanic business and he and Autumn end up running a sort of family unit while caring for Walter.

This is the story of how Rusty eventually guts up the courage to ask Autumn for his hand in marriage, and he seeks the blessing of Walter for permission
