Peaceful is the world
Peaceful is life
Every day identical to the last
The next, a carbon copy
I plead for something invigorating
Something to stoke life's fires
But it doesn't come
And I resign
Do you ever suppose
The crops in the fields
Swaying, whispering in the breeze
Are wishing for a storm
Softly, secretly, intrinsically
Safety becomes monotonous
And we begin to long for danger
Yet, we always act so surprised
When it arrives
When it arrives
And takes us by surprise
We long for the safety we squandered
Monotony, a small price to pay
Softly, secretly, extrinsically
Do you suppose
The trees of this land
Clairvoyant and wise
Foresaw this storm
I plead for release
Something to quell hell’s fires
But it doesn’t come
And I resign
My world, a carbon nightmare
Every inch identical to the last
But peaceful is life
And peaceful is the world
