She teases me so effortlessly
Promises dripping from her mouth
Pursed lips achingly close to mine but forever out of reach
The tickle of her breath against my lips screams of how close we came
A promise never quite spoken cannot be broken
All i feel is my heart crying
Creating oceans where none should be
I gasp for breath - or was it for her mouth?
My body feels numb as I sink into the inevitable abyss
Don't tell the children there's no relief in not feeling anymore
The tide goes out
The mannequin ends its eerie dance and collapses
My bones picked apart by gulls cackling I told you so
Was it worth it?
Yes. Yes! A thousand times yes!
And I'd do it all again.
I promise.
