Oh Derpy Hooves, so that’s why your ‘cutie mark’ is bubbles. Figures. And yes, I am completely obsessed with My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic. Did you have to ask?In case you’re wondering, Derpy Hooves is a pony fans named after one of the animators of the show decided to give a background character googly-eyes. The popularity she received earned her a semi-official status when the show creators began using the fan-assigned name. Beginning with the episode Feeling Pinkie Keen, they started giving her wall-eyes intentionally and they have stuck that way ever since. Also, today I learned something new from the Internet. Rule 54: If it exists, there's ponies of it.
As a fan on Twitter said, “This one is funnier read backwards.” I agree.

Where was that made official? There was talk of it being a possibility, but nothing concrete last I knew.

It came from one of the animators. When they created the characters, they gave the background characters nicknames of sort. "Stoneface", "Bubbles" and "Ditzy" was a few of the nicknames she had. When she later gained fame, the animators gave her a real name, Ditzy Doo. The name was supposed to be for another character, but because she never had any screen time, the name was given to Ditzy.
