Early in the morning, Aurora Shimmer is in her room, looking over a notebook with several scribbles across the paper. She focuses intently on the pages as well as another book beside her. She writes down notes as she studies a transformation spell. As she is writing notes she lets out a gasp of excitement.

Aurora: I think I got it!

The door opens and Midnight Spire steps inside.

Aurora: Spire! I'm pretty sure I got this stupid thing figured out.

Spire: *skeptical* Oh yeah? Show me. *trots up to Aurora's desk and looks at the book on its surface, as well as the apple sitting beside it*

Aurora focuses intently on the apple, her horn glowing a pale yellow. With all of her might, Aurora sends a magic beam towards the apple. The apple lifts off the desk and begins to shift in shape. Spire stares on in amazement. The apple shakes and takes the form of a rubber duck, while remaining an apple.

Aurora: *snorts* Well. It's a duck, at least.

Spire: *lifts the apple duck* Still not rubber. *takes a bite out of the apple*

Aurora: *pushes Spire teasingly* Well let's see you do better!

Spire: I thought you'd never ask. *sets down Aurora's apple duck* Watch and learn, little sister.

Aurora grabs their last apple from a bowl and sets it in front of her brother. Spire focuses as Aurora did, his horn glowing light blue. He focuses a beam of magic on the apple, once again the apple levitates and begins to shift. However, after a moment the apple explodes, covering Spire in mush.

Aurora: *laughing* Teach me your ways, oh great and powerful Spire. *uses her magic to hand him a towel*

Spire: *tears the towel from Aurora, wiping the apple from his face.* In my opinion, exploding an apple is much cooler than making it look like a duck.

Aurora: Keep telling yourself that. *keeps laughing*

Spire glares at Aurora and throws the towel at her playfully. From outside Aurora's room, Twilight Sparkle shouts.

Twilight: Spire! Aurora!

Aurora opens her door and trots outside her room with Spire following. Twilight is standing at the end of the hallway.

Twilight: There you two are, how goes the spell?

Aurora: Well, I turned the apple into a duck shaped apple. Spire--

Spire: *cutting Aurora off* I changed it from an apple!

Aurora: Is that so?

Spire: Of course. We had an apple, now we have applesauce.

Twilight: *laughing at her children* Well, speaking of apples...you two need to go to Sweet Apple Acres to get the crate of apples from Applejack for Flurry's birthday tonight. Then go to Sugar Cube Corner and get the treats and cake from Pinkie.

Spire: Got it, mom. We'll be back before they get here!

Spire and Aurora say goodbye to Twilight and head out of the castle, on the path to Sweet Apple Acres.

The book on the table is a shared journal between Spire and Aurora. The purple writing and bookmarks is Aurora and the blue writing and yellow bookmarks is Spire. They use this to share notes and practice magic together
