Description Cinderella and that dime that seems to get around, for scale. Cinderella is about 3.75 x 3.5 inches and is made from Canson and Canford papers.

I really like how her dress came out. I went with the movie version of her dress which was silver, The underneath of her dress is a little darker than the top of the material. I also went with a light gray for her sleeves and bustle rather than the white used in version 1. I think the light gray works better.

While I love how the dress came out, I'm not thrilled with her face and there may be a beheading in Cinderella's future...

Thank you! Sorry for the delay in my response.Β  I cut the shapes of the dress out from multiple pieces of paper and shape them with different tools to give them volume.Β  Then I glue all the pieces together.

It took a long time to find that paper and they don't make it anymore.Β  I wanted a silver paper because originally her dress was silver in the movie.

the effect was really worth it ^^ yay, i always thought it was very light blue, but i googled screencaps and on some of them it's silver indeed! haha, it's fun to discover new things about something you seem to know well

Truly amazing! I love the dress. It looks very complex and difficult to achieve the waves of her dress.

Thank you! And sorry for the delay in my response. This dress was a little more challenging, but the paper responds well to shaping, so it holds the curves very well.

I like how the waves of her dress came out. I am not sure how exactly you did that with that stiff paper but it looks amazing.

Sorry for the delay in my response.

The waves of her dress are made by shaping the pieces of paper with different tools, mostly aluminum knitting needles. After the paper is shaped, I glue it to the other pieces and make the full form.

This is good, but if you redo the face her hair should be a burnt orange (official color) which suggests either a light brown auburn or dark strawberry blonde, it's usually strawberry blonde from what i've seen.

incredible! If you do redo her face, give her orange hair like in the movie.
Still don't understand why the merchandise makes her hair yellow..

paperfetish In reply to Mermann87 [2011-10-24 01:29:15 +0000 UTC]

I have a bigger problem with her dress not being silver in the merchandising. I think her hair was originally meant to be a light brown or perhaps a shade of auburn. I'm not a huge fan of the paper I chose for her hair, but I haven't found a good shade of yellow paper to use for blonde. Perhaps if there is another version, I will go with something that more closely matches the color of her hair in the movie.

fuzzy-meatball [2011-01-09 21:36:33 +0000 UTC]

do u bend the paper to get the effect in her dress? do u paint ur own paper and cut it out, or do u use store-bought craft paper?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfetish In reply to fuzzy-meatball [2011-01-11 02:46:49 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for your questions. Yes, I do bend and shape the paper. I use a number of tools, but find my favorites are aluminum knitting needles. I generally don't paint paper, but I have in the past. I try to use only paper. As for paper, I generally use Canson and Canford papers. They are a little heavier than standard paper, but thinner than card stock. I really like the texture of the Canson paper and the Canford paper's really hold up well to shaping.

paperfetish In reply to GlassLaugter [2010-04-15 01:49:18 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for taking an interest in my work!

I don’t mind you asking at all. Generally, I draw an image to the scale I want and then make multiple photo copies of the completed image. Then I select the paper colors I plan to use and map out my cutting. I generally cut all the same color sections in one sitting (like all the light silver, then all the dark, then the petticoat, etc.). Much of my process in determining which parts are in front and which are in the back is done in my head and comes from practice. Once the pieces are all cut out, I shape the individual pieces and assemble sections. I assemble the dress, then her torso and arms, then her face and hair.

I use acid free glue and a sewing pin to apply it to the pieces. With a piece this small, I also change x-acto blades often so the cuts are clean.

At some point, I will make a tutorial. Life has just been very busy for the last year and I haven’t had the time to pull it all together.

I started when I was in college. I took a design class where we had to make a paper piece and sort of went from there.

paperfetish In reply to FFgirl7 [2010-03-01 02:58:36 +0000 UTC]

Oh, that is a long story, but the abridged version is I cut out each element from different colored paper, shape it with different tools and then glue them together.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

paperfetish In reply to 10-4ready4more [2009-10-22 23:16:06 +0000 UTC]

The paper is cut then shaped, so it isn't actually flat. Then the pieces are glued together in to finish the piece.
