Description
Tira original: [link]I made this comic WAY before Pixar produced "Tangled". But, yes, "The Simpsons" made this joke way before me, so I guess we are all even.
Scalp injuries, they look awful but they usually scar pretty well. Problem is, scalp contains lots of blood vessels. Because of this, if you get a small wound on it (even if it's a small one) it will bleed profusely, making it look worse than it really is. What you should worry about is things under the scalp: you skull and your brain. In fiction, we see heroes or villains knocking out people by hitting them on the head. In real life, it's not that easy to produce unconsciousness using that method. In fact, if you ever manage to do so, you'll probably also cause intracraneal bleeding, which can lead to brain damage and, later, death. Still, fiction presents this act as harmless for the good of the plot (and, let's face it, it looks cool. Just don't try it at home, kids)
Another subject related to head injuries is neck trauma. If you recall your anatomy lessons, you'll know that the spinal cord is protected by the vertebral column. Make any damage to this structure, and you'll probably get different symptoms that can differ from pain to total paralysis of limbs and organs under the injured area. In fact, injuries on C3 vertebrae and above may result in loss of breathing so, unless there's a ventilator nearby, it will be lethal. That's why you are supposed to stabilized injured people's head before moving them. But don't worry, poor Rapunzel will be okay. After physical rehabilitation, that's it.
