Description It's Jessica's [link] birthday today.
This portrait of her is my gift.

Drawn with a 2H pencil on regular printing paper.
Scanned, minor retouching (dirt, fingerprints, etc).

Unfortunately, it loses a lot of depth through the scan. The original looks by far better.

her eyes look penetrating enough to me... you have got something there! yes.

I'll repeat everything that Fleet21 said below, with out actually repeating it.

I like it because it IS thusly unbalanced and the eyes standout more than the rest. Who says an excellent deviation has to be perfect, or even try to be?

If one takes the composition as a whole, we see that very little outside the face is offered as an explanation of who this person is. She is posing, and that's the only drawback I can see. But it's not the same pose as most of the picture portraits I've seen. She looks like she has a reason for being there, and a reason for being drawn.

Her eyes are piercing and riviting. That is the point of the picture. This is a rendering of a woman's eyes, the rest is the story that gets one to see them. Her nose is secondary, with little provided to give her individuality based on it. Additionally, the lips are silent as to the type of person she it. The hair is nonexistant, as are the breasts, or other sexual features to this woman.

In essence, we can't reduce her to trite, stereotypical sexual rhetoric. We have to confront her on her terms, and realize that the only way we'll get to know this woman is by looking her in the eyes.

And for that, it's an extrodinary picture.

This picture is absolutely astounding. The face looks so very lifelike, and the pose itself, of a serious, atractive girl is fantastic. The eyes strike me as being the best part overall due to the sheer intensity of the gaze, and they make this picture the excellent deviation it is.

Awesome work.

She's very beautiful, and this is an exquisite drawing. The soft contrast brings out a delicate quality, while the accentuation of the eyes conveys an intangible strength. Quite captivating.

I like the gentle contrast the 2h gives, good choice. I always work super-soft, but now I'm going to have to play with harder pencils now. Damn you, man, damn you.

you know she hung it up across from my desk, now I feel she's always watching me..it's so realistik! I bet she sometimes looks at it and thinks it's her mirror until she notices that, well...she's all pale and....stuff. oh, um, whatever.
I think that was a very wonderful idea for a present, I thought that was so sweet!
Well, I really like this one

Wow.. superb job
I'm in the B camp of pencils too.. but this H work is admirable
It's really well drawn.. nice proportions, and excellent shading. My only suggestion (although it's a bit late now.. ) is just to add a few lines for detail on the lips and in the irises. Looks really great though.. especially the eyes & around the eyelashes.

Very thoughtful gift too
