Description
the embers of memory arestillness, and the snow of disbelief
fogging my delicate brain -
a wall of faces, asking me from a distance, as if i were alone
on a rowboat of grey weathered wood
watching them from across the silent galaxy
of a lake, deep as the blood in my quiescent veins,
wide and cold...snow falling, rushes sticking up like bones
from the frozen mud. i remember it all.
i remember nothing. i made myself cry, because i knew
the pain was coming...but it was so far away,
like ghost murmurings behind the heavy veil of static
that was my comatose mind.
cry for me - show me your animal soul,
the sleeping mask of your face riven with silver tears,
the frostbitten fruits of your beauty - break open my cold heart -
let me see you sacrifice your pride
on winter's bleak iron soil, the damp unerring splendour
of fog pouring over the water like a legion of angels
singing in the muted tongue of misery - and you, my heroine,
sinking, curled around an atrophied heart,
the chthonic roots of a flower
in the season of death.
