If you have done a drawing, than you have the right to post it and you dont need my permission to do so, the only thing I would ask is that I be credited some how a web link would be nice haha, but not a must. Im not a really touchy artist about people using my work. If I was that worried I wouldnt be posting it on the internet of all places haha.

Looking through your scraps, and wanted to ask a question.
Ive recently been told that my line quality is bad. Now i was told this before, a year and a half ago, when i first started, but it was going toward tatoos being all black where the light hits, and i needed to lighten the areas up in pencil works.
Anyway, i was recently told that the thickness of my lines and such are all pretty much the same on most of my works. I wanted to know if you had any tips on this?

hmm... tips.... not to give a crap what other people say? My experience as an artist has taught me that many people who critisize are normally people who can not do what you can do, at least not to the extent that you could and are nothing short of jealous, and as jealousy goes they would see fit to pick at you. other times there are critics who simply want you to fit into their mold of what they like, but they do not realize that where they think you are coming short for their taste, some one else may think you are a genius. most people do not understand that any artistic medium is subjective to every one's taste, for instance film.... a melting pot for all artistic mediums, many people including myself loved the Lord of the rings trilogy, while many thought it was a dung hill of crap. opinions dont really count much, because the fact is that more work went into the making of those films than most people do on a day to day basis, and thus their critique of the quality of the art is based on their own taste, thus making what they have to say biased and unreliable. So next time some one has some form of opinion to shove their way, go tell them to roll up a fatty and go smoke it.
My final advice is to draw for you is to find a way you like to draw, and then work it until it looks like what you like because the odds are there is going to be a group of people out there with the same taste who will appreciate it as much if not more than you do.
For me... I looked at Michael Turner's comic work, decided that was the way I wanted to draw, and then worked at it until It looked enough like his style to please me. And though I draw criticism from people who are jealous, biased, and unrelentingly critical, Im not the one worried about it, after all Im drawing the way I want to, because I want to. They're the ones worried about it

Ahh, well i suppose that makes sence, dosent help as much as i would have thought, but it does as well.
I myself dont know how to ink, in any sence. I can do pencils, but everything ive done in my gallery arem orel ike pencil sketches, nothing i put too much effort into. But inking has always fallen short for me, since ive only been doing it a few weeks now. Either way ill take your advice and just ink untill i get into some sort of groove, and then practice at what ive learnt. Everytime an artist does any work they always lern something, so i guess if i just ink and ink, ill figure something out sooner or later. Ive still got loads of work to do with my lines though, like anatomy practice and such. Gotta learn the rules before you can bend em

well um, I dont know much about inking myself, because I dont ink my work. the last time I inked something was in I think 1999, and I decided that it was a completely useless practice to me, since My pencil work was clean enough to be the final product in the first place. However, I did learn a few things about inking, techincal stuff that most people dont know about. one is that inkers use somehting called nibs I think its a type of brush tip, thats fine enough to get those nice smooth edges, but from what Ive learned, inkers use brushes instead of pens. from looking at professionally inked work, I know they also use white out to correct a mistake or even to create splatter effects in large black inked areas. also they use india ink for the ink. and one of the coolest tricks I ever learned was the use of a tooth brush. they take a crappy old tooth brush, and dip it in the ink jar, and flick it on the art work to create splatter effects that Im sure youve seen in comics. also for this trick you might want to take a piece of card board and cut a hole in it so when you splatter the ink splatter does not go all over your art work where you dont want the ink to go.... a splash guard you might say. but yeah.......I never really liked inking, after I just got done taking the time to make a clean drawing, I found it completely stupid to redraw it with a brush, and then do effects like that that I could do in photoshop with greater control. but Im just a pencil man, no inks for my work Also, what kind of pencils and errasers d oyou use?

Cracked-Ice-Concepts In reply to particle9 [2005-03-11 21:16:01 +0000 UTC]
Ah, i see now.
Well all i have is a .5 mechanical, and a .7 mechanical for pencils, nothing special. When i do pencil works i may use a wooden B, but thats about it. And for erasers, just the ones on the back of the pencil lol. I dont have very many supplies.
I HAD a pilot pen for inking, and i do have a set of rapidiograph pens, but i dont like to use them, you have to keep them at a vertical stand the entire time you draw with them.

I have seen this before. I believe it was on a Michael Turner sketch cover of a certain issue. This is very very similar to the real deal. Good job .
