Description TW: Needles(in picture), hard to talk about topics[like surgery](in description, both indirectly mentioned and directly mentioned). Just getting this out of the way in case you don’t want to delve yourself into this subject matter. If you do not wish to read, I’ll make a separate post once this mini-arc, and my real life issues, are over, giving a version of the story that might be better for you to understand. If you do wish to read, however, your discretion is advised.

[Before we start this story, well, part one of this two-part story… I know what happened with FrogBot’s original VA. Some people do terrible things like that, and I don’t support that. However, this also affects the VernorVerse in a way. It’s nothing to do with the actual VAs voicing within the VernorVerse itself, but rather their current voices, if they are the right age or are iconic enough, sound just like canon. Sometimes, a fanon voice is used instead, especially if I like it. If a big vocal change is happening in reality because of a particular VA, the equivalent is a sore throat or a broken voice box in the VernorVerse. And that’s what FrogBot will be dealing with until we have a new VA for them…or until I come up with a brand new voice for them; a broken voice box. I don’t condone what the original VA did, but I’m able to let the character go free without having any connection to the original VA. With that…solemn warning…out of the way, let’s get into the details of FrogBot and the Surgery Woes: Part 1. (And a little background information will come after this, since I kind of have real life experiences that play into this whole thing, just in a VERY different way. You might know what it is if you noticed my most recent update.)]

{It was a bright night within the AQRobotics building. Everyone, except Kyra, was fast asleep in their beds, dreaming about…whatever fun adventures popped into their heads. As for Kyra, she was busy working on two things; one was a brand new robot with the code name of “P.R.I.D.E.”, and the other was her proposal to Ellie Ann. She was working on both of those at the same time, not aware of what was going to happen next. Oh. She was also singing a catchy song while doing both of those things}

Kyra: *singing* I’m not a damsel in distress
I’m not your best friend, or the frightened princess
I’m not a little bird who needs your help to fly
Nope! I’m the bad guy!

All these former villains that you see
Each of them, with shaking knees, has knelt before me
So, I’m not your teammate or your partner-in-crime
Listen here, guys! I’m the bad guy!

Oh, it’s magic
To watch a planet
Shrivel up and-

{Before Kyra could finish her verse, she, and by extension EVERYONE in the building, heard a sudden, loud noise in the direction of FrogBot’s room. And it’s no spoiler that everyone else was woken up by the noise as well}

Kyra(continued): *talking* Huh? Is FrogBot okay?

{Everyone exited their rooms and rushed over to FrogBot’s room. Frog was just sitting on their bed, shaking like no tomorrow, with their leg and hands blocking his neck from view. It was clear to everyone that SOMETHING was wrong with FrogBot}

404: FrogBot, are you okay? Can you speak to us?

{FrogBot tried to speak, but nothing came out. He tried again, and still nothing. They tried for a good minute or two before just shaking their head “No”}

Mittens: I think you might have a robotic version of laryngitis.

Harmony: Mittens, robots, especially robot toons, can’t get laryngitis. Our equivalent of laryngitis is a broken voice box.

Izabella: Wait. What signs are there for a broken voice box?

Fandroid: Well, Iz, it all starts with a scratchy throat pipe and a rough voice coming out, like when I got The Robot Virus.

Melody: And then, after enough time, the voice box breaks, which emits a loud noise that causes anyone to cover their ears in pain.

Beep-0: This renders their voice useless until a new voice box is installed into the location where it originally was at.

Kyra: And no amount of magic can fix the original voice box UNLESS there is a miracle that happens. It’s more common to occur in robots who have old voice boxes and refuse upgrades.

Fandrew: Does any of that sound familiar to you, FrogBot?

{FrogBot, realizing that he doesn’t have enough fingers on both hands to use sign language, instead uses their screen to communicate to everyone else. Frog tells them through the screen that they had a scratchy throat pipe and rough voice the past few days, and then they were woken up by a loud noise that came out of them, which in turn silenced them until further notice. He also explains how he only got one upgrade and it was one he did himself…while conscious, along with being one of the older ADHOC-Original robots. Everyone gasped as they saw the story, since this was the first time they’re understanding FrogBot’s story}

Business Bot: Oh dear! FrogBot, we want to help you out in any way that we can. *towards Kyra* Is there any way that we can fix FrogBot’s voice box?

Kyra: There are only two ways. The first way is by magic, but like I said, it doesn’t work unless a miracle happens. And I have a bad feeling that a miracle won’t happen at all in this case…for some reason. The other way, and more common way, is for the particular robot or robot toon to receive an upgrade. In other words, they will have to go through surgery.

{FrogBot began to shake as “surgery” came out of Kyra’s system. He didn’t want to deal with the process one bit and, in sheer fear, hopped off of the bed and into 404’s arms}

404: Whoa! *holding FrogBot close to himself while trying not to blush heavily* It’s going to be okay, FrogBot. You don’t have to fear anything. We’re right by your side.

Dormir: But…Kyra, what happens if the robot refuses surgery? What happens there?

Kyra: I’ve only seen this happen once before in my ADHOC days, but I remember it well. It was in the late 90s, when I was only a scientist in ADHOC, and one of the robots had a broken voice box, just like what FrogBot is dealing with now. This robot also refused surgery at all costs. Overtime, cracks began to form where the voice box was located. They kept getting bigger and bigger until…it reached their head and… ADHOC forever lost a robot when that happened.

Patdroid: So, what you’re saying is… If a robot refuses surgery for a long enough time…they die?!

Kyra: They don’t necessarily die, really. They just stop working until someone can fix them. That’s what I’m doing to that robot now; fixing them up, replacing their voice box, and giving them a brand new start at AQRobotics.

{Everyone else sighed in relief that no robot would die, but FrogBot was still terrified of getting surgery. He likes his old voice and doesn’t want to ever change it! They clung tightly to 404, not wanting to let go}

QWERTY: It seems that FrogBot’s too scared to deal with surgery. It’s probably going to be their first surgery that they’ll have to be unconscious for.

Kyra: That’s right. A voice box surgery can only happen when a robot is placed into a medically-induced sleep mode, kind of like how humans have anesthesia for when they need to deal with surgery…most of the time.

404: Wait. People did surgeries while conscious?!

Kyra: Yes. Self-surgeries to be exact. FrogBot did one to replace the spring at the bottom of their leg, just like they told in the story, but trying to do the same with a broken voice box is impossible.

Griff: Trust me, a robot actually tried to do it while I was a scientist there. It did NOT go well.

{Beep-0 blushes in embarrassment, revealing that they were the one to try that self surgery on their voice box}

Beep-0: I just messed up my neck even more and had to get someone else to do it for me.

{FrogBot looks on, really wanting to not only ask how the surgery works or how Beep-0 did it before, but their fear is getting too much for the poor robot and oily tears start coming out of frog’s eyes, causing 404 to try and calm him down}

Fandroid: Maybe we should try to calm FrogBot down first. He’s scared out of his mind. And if anything, you’re going to need time to figure out what voice they’re going to receive.

Kyra: Yes. I’ll need time to think of a voice. In the meantime, all of you have to work together to try and get FrogBot to realize that surgery will help them out.

Izabella: FrogBot’s not the only one who will need that realization.

Melomber: There’s someone else that needs it, too?!

404: Who is it? *towards FrogBot* I’m right by your side, FrogBot.

Izabella: Well, while I was actually waiting for Vernor to get back to all of us working on the new project in regards to those fan episodes, the ones where we found out about the cardinal rules, she contacted us that we’re going to have us waiting for a little while longer. Vernor has some issues going on within their body and will ALSO need surgery to fix it, but she’s also scared about it.

Fandroid: Oh no! I hope Vernor’s okay!

{This all happened around 1 AM on the last Monday of August. It’s now early September. Cracks are starting to form around FrogBot’s neck, where their voice box is located. Kyra has put her other things in the closet to focus on finding a new voice for FrogBot. And for Vernor…she was forced to come and try to help FrogBot out, even though she has that exact same fear! And it’s their biggest fear as well. Only time will tell what happens next}

[Okay. Now, this is where I need to bring the background information in. I don’t usually delve into my real life, unless it’s important for a story to make sense or if it will stop me from working. And this is something that I feels important to mention. Well…a few things.

I’ll go in chronological order of events and how what I originally wanted to happen turned into this. It all starts with the biggest fear, to be honest with you. You see, within “The Cardinal Rule”, there were mentions of remaking a fanmade episode that I did back in 2020 after getting another fanmade episode completed. Well, I also finally agreed to allowing someone else to help me with it. During one of these sessions, we talked about something. I can’t fully explain it here, but I can say that the original source episode never explained what would’ve happened if someone wasn’t saved by a certain spell before the last leaf fell from a certain wall. After fully realizing that no one who worked, voiced, or participated in that episode actually gave confirmation on what would’ve happened and that it was just a theory everyone took on, believing it to be canon, I realized that I didn’t have to fear it anymore. That’s right. I originally wanted a post to explain that I no longer have a fear of Sleeping Boots…but life was about to throw a bunch of curveballs at me for that.

That was around the time I started to experience pain in my stomach area and back after certain meals. It got so bad that I needed to get a doctor’s appointment to figure out what was causing the pain.

These next two things happened at around the same time; the situation with FrogBot’s original VA happened while I was in pain, and then that night, I suffered through the Yearly August Power Outage that always seems to happen now! During this power outage, I couldn’t really do my of anything but hope the pain went away. And with news about the VA, I had to take action with putting a halt on my current plan to account for a voice change, thus resulting in this. I still don’t support what the VA did and will NEVER support those kinds of actions.

Okay. So, once the power came back on and I knew that this would be happening, I was just…worried. I found out from the doctor’s appointment that I might’ve had a problem with my gallbladder. Usually, when that happens, most people get surgery for it and…the fear of being in a hospital, with needles in your body, being placed under anesthesia, and not knowing how long you’ll be under for or if the surgery is a success…that is what made surgery become my new biggest fear. And just last Wednesday, I found out that yes, I DO have a gallbladder issue; gallstones! I will most likely have surgery to try and fix it, but I’m absolutely terrified about it. I had tubes in my ears before, but I was so little that I don’t remember it.

And now we’re here. FrogBot is dealing with a broken voice box, scared of surgery to replace it, I’ve got gallstones, unable to have certain meats at all, scared of surgery in general, but realizing that it will help me, and waiting for Reality!Fandroid to announce the new VA of FrogBot or figure out what voice I want VV!FrogBot to have. What I originally wanted to be a celebration for that fear of Sleeping Boots being defeated in my mind turned into…this. Life threw lots of curveballs, and they all hit my body, my house, actual canon, fanon as well, and brought up a new biggest fear into my life. I’m not ready for the month ahead of me, but I also know that once all of the pain is over, and we find out about the new VA, FrogBot and I will both be doing much better with our lives.]

Also, because of things being recent within this whole thing that started this in the first place, at least as I’m typing this out, I’m disabling the comments until I feel ready to enable them. Usually, I trust the warnings I give, but because of it being recent information, I’m not comfortable with comments for a while on new posts relating to FrogBot. I hope you understand my reasoning for this decision.
