Description
Would you have the guts to be in the place of that warrior? xD With a powerfull dragon in front of you, ready to kill you and (probably) eat you! ;D I'll do!
I did this while i was on the university, on my free times. So i had tons of time to work on it. I only used Black and Red ballpoint pens. Red color pencil helped me a little to add a cool effect to my red pen, but i didn't used it that much...
How many time i spent? Well... how about 3 weeks just working on it like 30 minutes everyday?
So, do you like it?
I REALLY APRECIATE CRITIQUES ON THIS WORK!

Drawing with ball-point pens is one of the hardest things to accomplish, particularly when doing a full piece such as this.
The shading - particularly on the brickwork - is amazing; the lighting is captured perfectly.
I personally really like the surreal touch that =paulcellx puts into his work, as shown here by having the buildings leaning away from the battle, and also by the dragon; the way the dragon is wrapped around the tower and in the angle of its head is un-realistic, adding to the surreality of the scene.
My only critique would be the gravestones; they would look more defined if drawn in their usual dual-oblong shape. However, I do like how the dragon is poised over a landscape of the dead; very original!
Overall, an astounding piece with great detail. Well done, =paulcellx !

First fo all thank you very much for taking your time to critique my work, i really apreciatte it my friend! Is not so difficult to draw with ballpoints. It's long indeed, takes a lot of time but it's easier than it looks. Have some cool advantages.
The shading is what i really like to do most when i am drawing, and THANKS for noticing that. I wasn't sure about the gravestones, they were kinda a "last moment idea" along with the lake. xD The paper wasn't so big so making those gravestones was a pain in the ass. I always wanted to do a dragon, and i am very glad you think that about it. ^_^ Really makes me proud of my work. Thanks Kichai! I apreciatte yoru critique! Accepted!

You're more than welcome! <3
I've always wanted to write a critique; this is my first. Feel special!
I always notice the shading in your work; you can always tell that it's something you put a lot of time and effort into
What size paper did you use?

Whoah, i feel so honoured now. You did an amazing critique mah friend, and i loved it. I feel so special!
With the shading is what i really enjoy most of my work, but sadly is the thing that really consumes my time and is kinda annoying "not advancing"
I use a A4 size paper, i have a sketchbook fo that size. You can see them at mah "Work area" image on mah gallery if you want. ^^

Yay, I'm glad!
Haha, I know what you mean XD I'm far too lazy to tackle such a time-consuming thing as shading
Oh wow, that's amazing! I thought you worked on a bigger scale than that!

Paulcellx In reply to Kichai [2011-04-18 21:01:49 +0000 UTC]
Hehehe no, i am very limited in fact of space. The A4 drawingbook is kinda unconfortable, because of the rings/spirals it has on the upper side of the page. So i don't have so many movement that we can say. And that's what really annoys me most. But it has an advantage and is that i can have that notebook almost everywhere. :3 lol Do you draw in sketchbooks? :3

Ahh, those rings/spirals are the most annoying things ever! D;
It depends on what's available to me at the time I pick up the pencil Usually I just use standard printer paper, but I do also have a few sketchbooks (though none are spiral-bound) n_n

Yeah, trust me, tat with annoying i cannot even put my hand "well" in those pages, and it kinda interfieres when i am coloring something. I du have freedom! Standar printer paper is the best... honestly, that's the best. xD

Instanlty when I gazed upon this magnificent work I said. "This is one of Pauls, and it is god like."
The first thing that struck me is the final fantasy-esque, appeal to it, I firstly thought it was the Warrior of Light going at it with Shinryu Verus!
Viewing this work is a pleasure. Colours form wonderfully, as black is always a compliment to red and crimson. Leading lines are executed in an amazing fashion, the perspective buildings and grassy trail leading upto the warrior and then his blade and up the tower to the dragon, the off of the wonderful wings!
The critique I would have to imply on vision is the flatness(?) of the dragons head. It seems a tad bit 2D when all it would need is some shading, and perhaps a slight turn in perspective so you could just see its other eyebrow for example.
Still, it looks wonderful and has no adverse effect at all in my opinion.
The warrior vs. dragon is used sparingly and that's what I enjoy, this really looks stunning. Never before have I seen a dragon so huge and the warrior, tiny in comparison with an obvious flame in his eyes and courage in his heart. The pose is perfect and I love how the dragon is staring directly at the warrior, whilst attracting the viewer's eyes.
Paul's technique has always been an incredibly high caliber. It's rare to see someone draw with ink and colour pencils and paints, but he pulls it off perfectly. Grand in scale and grand in it's technique. There is very little white space left in this work and is used wonderfully for highlights and contrasting.
Visually, as with alot of Paul's drawing and artworks, this is breathtaking. I adore this work, and te only thing I would have liked to of seen, is one of his painted moons, which he is so incredibly good at.
Overall the only critique I have is the dragon's head, and I would have loved to have seen a contrasting background, but the white works very well indeed! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/m/m… " width="15" height="15" alt="
" title="Meow :3"/>
Apologies in advance for any typos!

Awesome NICE! Thank you very much for taking your time critizing my work, it really makes me happy and glad! :'D I readed it twice and my smile was big. Thanks for noticing the (crazy) perspective i put on the buildings and the details. This idea of the warrior facing a monster with a blade on a hand is one of the drawings i always wanted to do. :3 I wasn't sure about the dragon's face, it was very flat for me. I haven't done a dragon before i didn't knew how to do it, but this afternoon i will see how i make it 3D like you say! :3 Maybe i will update it later!
About the moons, i am thinking of making something, i have an idea of a "bloody moon" but i don't know with "what to put it". Maybe with a church? ;D I dunno. Any recomendations?

No worries mate! I love all your work! For a first time dragon, this was incredible
If you want me to critique more often then please feel free to comment on my page and ask for it! I'm a little wary because sometimes people are in a grumpy mood and it makes them a bit upset
Personally what I would love to see, is a pure black Cathedral, with one big red moon, and another big yellow one behind it and using those moons to sort of, outline the cathedral's silouette. But that's my personal preference! I just love the moons you paint and draw because I can't draw them myself and yours always looks so grand and magnificent!

The honor is mine my friend. I am very glad you like my work because tat motivates me to continue more into my duty. I will put my best efforts to make more cool stuff for your apreciation.
I am always open minded to critique, i know the critique is for my good. To help me to improve. And i know how is to take your time to help someone else. That's the biggest help a artist can get.
I wanna make something GOTHIC, DARK for my next painting and your idea is pretty good. I was planning to do a Cathedral on the middle with a crazy perspective surrounded by some buildings, all of the destroyed. With ablack sky and on a Corner a BIG bloody moon with the yellow moon you mention ot a side. Another option i have is to make a biggest city in form of silluetes. Hmmm i might try that. You will be surprised!

Exactly! Since i dont have erraser, one mistake = FAILURE.
But i dont only see it on that way, i have learned that from mistakes, pretty good ideas can come. For example here on this drawing, did you notice the "spines" the dragon is trowing? They cam when i accidentally put my pen and i made a very thin line, so i had to make all the spines the dragon is launching in order to repair it, but at the end it came pretty good!
Have you ever made something like that from mistakes?

AWESOME! I like the way you only used black and white, with that reddish color. It makes it dramatic in a cool way. To answer that question about is I wanted to be in the warrior shoes, I'd only do it if I was really angry (up to the point where I'm feeling blood thirsty and you don't want to mess with me).

Shinryu was originally from FF V as a special boss, and so he was made to be chaos' summon for dissidia/dissidia duodecim. WoL is a playable character so they all have summons.
