Two prairie dock leaves yellowing and starting to decay on the prairie at the Elmer & Edna Culver Conservancy in Dane County, Wisconsin, just north of Madison. I love the drama and translucency of prairie dock leaves, even more than their sunflower-like blooms which erupt from stems that tower six, seven, eight feet high over prairie grasses.
