Description At the time of the blast, James was shunting his coaches for his next train, while talking to Toby. James' train was nearly loaded when the explosion happened. James begins to panic and urged the passengers to get in his coaches. However, only half of the train was coupled, and there was no time to couple them up. James urged Toby to push the brake coach and the two others, however Toby didn't listen, as he feared for Henrietta's life and fled the area.

With no other option James furiously left the station, and the uncoupled carriages behind. While on the run, James and his crew hear Thomas' whistle in the shed, and saw some mutated trucks that had jammed the turntable.

James later arrives at Knapford, with Edward having been there for a long time. James would take out his frustrations on Edward. After an hour, Edward, James and their crew left the station, heading for the bridge. While Edward stopped for water, James' driver had him race past them, hoping to get to the Mainland. Unfortunately, they were sent down the wrong line and went straight into Suddery, never to be seen again. During this time James mutated, and a second mouth grew next to his primary mouth.

What happened to James after this was he crashed into a set of buffers along the line and derailed. He had also grown a third mouth right where his left eye used to be. BoCo found him sobbing and injured. He pleaded for him and the survivors to let him die there, but BoCo didn't listen. After seeing four of his friends die, he wasn't willing to lose anyone else. So after they rerailed him he was shunted all the way to Crosby, where BoCo ran out of fuel sometime prior.

The men that were with BoCo survived with materials in the vans that he had brought from the mainland. Edward spoke to James to make sure he was alright. Presumably, James apologize for the Knapford argument and tried to become hopeful. He wants to tell Sir Topham Hatt something the next time they stop at the camp, however it is currently unknown what he wants to say.

The next day, Topham interrigated one of the men from Brendam and found out about the terrorist organization that wanted to ruin the railway. One railway worker part of the organization was James' driver ,Felix. He might be the reason why James was sent to Suddery instead of the bridge to the mainland. He wanted to get to Brendam and he would've met the same fate as Donald if he didn't crash into a siding along the line. It's unknown where his driver went after that. If he wasn't injured in the crash, he must of made his way to another location where the organization was planning their next move.
