Description
For Mike Hopp and Matt, Principally. 8)This is an Idea I came up with when I was ten years old, and why it has not been used I will never understand. In my opinion it is FAR better than the drop weight/vent gas idiocy.

People seem VERY afraid to build a true LTA craft. That and a semi aerostat can lift more for its size with good engines, but that is the ONLY advantage. May I again remind you (them, not you) that if your power cuts out on a semi aerostat, and you cannot land, you are screwed 8] )
And I do agree, we need SOME form of airship. I just hope it doesnt turn out looking like those hideous artist concepts.

I actually thought of a similar idea way back when. Right around the time I was learning about the behavior of gases under pressure and concepts behind expansion lift/weight ratio. Unlike you it was just a thought that crosses my mind and not a full fledged "This can work" concept.
Then I turned my mind to the Westinghouse air brake system and the fluid dynamics of pressurized air in a closed system.

An efficient and elegantly simple solution. No waste, no fuss. Engineering at its finest. The world needs more minds like yours, Karnes.

Check out Igor Pasternak's Aeroscraft. It's using a ballast system very much like this. So far, the small rigid ship has been confined to in-hangar testing while Aeroscraft awaits certification from the FAA.

That is what I aimed for, and I am VERY glad you think so my friend. 8)
All I need to do for the system is make an effective two stage or three stage compressor that has a good volumentric efficiency near the tank full pressure, between 6000 and 15000 PSI, as well as reliable valving and controls for these valves.
