Description Pleistocene Florida
2 million years ago (Gelasian)
Inglis 1A Site

Near the end of the Pliocene, a great land bridge between North and South America had formed, allowing for a large migration to happen. As a result, cats, dogs, rabbits, camels, bears, gomphotheres, tapirs, and horses had entered South America, while guinea pigs, parrots, megatheres, chlamyphorids, and phorusrhacids entered North America. While the North American immigrants were much more successful than the South American immigrants, a few of the latter had managed to stand tall for a few million years. However, they had to face a few of the already-strong North American immigrants, one of which was the famed saber-toothed cat, Smilodon.

The original Saber Tooth took place in Paraguay; however, I decided to switch the location to Florida in order to talk a little more about the Great American interchange (besides, we get large phorusrhacids this way). Anyways, this episode focuses on a male Smilodon named Half-Tooth who, at first, is the leader of a great pack; however, after two rival males chase him away from the pack, he has to live on his own, and tries to hunt prey for himself without crossing paths with phorusrhacids. Like last time, there will be a few changes to this; for example, Smilodon will be a solitary hunter who establishes large territories instead of a cat that lives in prides, the megatheres won't eat meat, and the phorusrhacids will show that the dinosaurs are still around instead of being complete cowards.

Titanis walleri: 50% of the reason I decided to put this episode in Florida, this 1.7 meter tall phorusrhacid is one of the last of its kind; however, it still is fully capable of holding its ground in the Floridian grasslands. It is a predator, preying on horses, bovids, megalonychids, peccaries, and small camels. In this episode, it will be one of the main predators of this episode, catching anything that's not too fast or strong for it; however, despite the fact that Smilodon has displaced it as an apex predator, it will still aggressively defend itself against the cat. Pose based on these  skeletals .

Smilodon gracilis (Lesser saber-toothed cat): This 1.3 meter long cat is one of the most famous Cenozoic animals, notable for its giant, knife-like canines. It is a predator, preying on horses, bovids, megalonychids, megatheres, peccaries, chlamyphorids, and camels. A male individual named Half-Tooth will be the protagonist of this episode, being the owner of a large territory; however, two rival males will displace him from his territory, forcing him to live alone. Again, it will receive a few changes: it will be a tiger-like solitary hunter and not a lion-like pride hunter, and won't be overly fast. Pose based on a Scott Hartman skeletal.

Equus simplicidens (Hagerman zebra): This 1.4 meter tall horse is one of the earliest modern horses (belonging to the Equus genus). It is an herbivore, feeding on grass. In this episode, it will be the token prey item of both Titanis and Smilodon; it, however, can and will put up quite a chase for the predators. Pose based on a zebra skeleton.

Glyptotherium arizonae: This 1.8 meter long chlamyphorid is a unique armadillo, as its body is covered by a turtle-like shell, and it has a spiky tail. It is an herbivore, feeding on grass. In this episode, rival males will rut for mates by swinging their tails at each other. Pose based on 's reconstruction.

Eremotherium eomigrans: This 6 meter long megathere is a very widespread sloth, as the genus it belongs to had lived in both North and South America. It is an herbivore, feeding on leaves from trees. In this episode, it will be nothing more than an ambient animal (boooooooorrrrrriiiiiing). Pose based on 's reconstruction.

Arctodus pristinus (Lesser short-faced bear): This 1.6 meter tall bear is commonly misconstrued as being able to run as fast as your average big cat, due to the compressed body creating an optical illusion of long legs. It is an omnivore, feeding on fruits, grass, and animal carcasses, and also preying on megalonychids and small gomphotheres. In this episode, one individual will get attracted to a carcass and fight one of the rival brothers over it, killing him in the process; this allows Half-Tooth to come back, kill the other brother, and reclaim the right to his territory. Pose based on a Scott Hartman skeletal.
