Great picture! Did you use graphite or charcoal? And what format did you use?

The shading looks great! Love the eyes!
I know how frustrating it can be to take a good photo or scanned copy of a pencil drawing!

This is really cool, I totally love how you achieved such an expressive drawing. The pose, the rich darks, the texture on the arm, it's all there, I definitely enjoy that. Everything has a sense of volume and dimension, well done! The only thing where I felt a bit unsure, was the shoulder, which at first seems a bit small. But then again, Natalie is kind of petite, I think, so maybe it's just the way she is, combined with the fact that she leans herself onto a surface...so yeah, no complaints, really
Great work!
Daniel

thank you very much for this critique, if i may call it that well... i also thought that her shoulder looked really small. i stared at the picture and thought - there's just something wrong with it. but then i compared it to the reference photo and the shoulder really is small, though i guess it's kinda harder to notice that since it's a real life photo so you wouldn't even expect to see a "mistake" like that

Yeah that's very true, there are some things that work in a photo which you can simply not do in a drawing...because the viewer doesn't even assume impossible things with a photo. That's not to say that you actually drew something, that wouldn't work, it's certainly not that disturbing. I just happened to notice it, but as I said, I think the pose explains that

yup and i think i might have over emphasized the highlights and shadows on the shoulder a bit (at least more than they are in the photo) so the shoulder stands out even more

Wow! Especially well done with the dirt and grime on the skin, that can be hard to pull off without it looking like a mistake or odd shading. You nailed it, great piece!

It's amazing the expression in her eyes. Even more perturbed that the real character when was tortured!
Congratulations, you've made an incredible rendering of Ms Portman!
