I’ve explained before how I interpret Scar and Zira’s relationship with their kids, but to sum it up: I think Scar was so self centered and uncaring by this point that he didn’t see them as individuals, rather as an extension of himself—but he loved himself, so he loved them, in this twisted way. Zira had love for the kids as well, but never considered them her top priority—they were only ever a very distant second to Scar (and even just Scar’s legacy, once he died). Was their detached, highly conditional love better than no love at all? It’s hard to say. …But they do look really cute holding the babies, at least.
