“I’ve got it, Kion—zuka zama!”

He hadn’t even looked over his shoulder to see where Bunga was going, which of the poachers he was out to get. Kion had stayed focused on his own target, the leader of the lions who’d busted in to hunt the Tree’s wounded animals. The Guard had chased them all the way up here, and now Kion had their leader backed into a corner. Cikha Escarpment was a dangerous place for a battle to be taking place, but it seemed that the Tree of Life’s brave Day Guard had the situation under control.

By the time that Anga screamed his name, the Roar of the Elders was in full effect, tossing the leader and several of his followers all the way over the territory’s boarders, and muffling any other sound. Kion turned around, wearing his usual proud smile, to see how his friends were handling the others. It took him a few moments to understand what he was seeing.

Behind him, the lioness that Bunga had been chasing was hanging by her claws. She had just barely made a massive jump from one precarious ledge to another, and was desperately scrambling up to safety. Beshte had ran to the edge, but backed away as his heavy hoof caused the rock to start crumbling. Anga was fluttering in the air just above him, looking back at Kion with an expression of horror. The Guard’s fastest wasn’t here, busy chasing down one of the poachers who had split off from the others.

Bunga wasn’t here, either.

But that didn’t mean anything, Kion thought, as he walked slowly to the ledge. The honey badger did things like this; Bunga must have grabbed onto the lioness when she jumped, and right now he was laughing and letting one rip right in her face! Kion saw that the lioness was fleeing into the distance—there was no Bunga clinging to her. That meant that he was swinging from a vine, above the great drop, so Kion looked up. The few nearby trees did not bear vines. Of course he was hanging from a smaller ledge, just below, and Kion would see his best friend’s grinning face as soon as he looked down.

“No!”

Kion fell forward into the dust, staring in horror at rocky ground far below them.

“No—Bunga!”

...Let it be known that I don’t mean any offense to people who like Bunga—but for my own purposes, in my headcanon, he gets dead. Using human aging, he and Kion were 20, making this four years post-canon.

I have two sources of inspiration, lulz: first is ’s comic (she’s an unbelievably talented artist, if you don’t watch her already I suggest you take a look ), which made me realize that, hey, I can kill Bunga too I had been afraid to bite the proverbial bullet, because I’ve said before that I dislike him, so didn’t wanna seem like I’m just hating: but I realized that I just need to give the story my all; I’m gonna follow this part up another time, showing how it effects Kion’s character development. He deserves more development, and, well, handling a big death is a classic way to give a character that—Kion hasn’t ever lost anybody, and I think having to deal with that might make him, if not a better character, one that I like better

Second thing that influenced this issssss......... well I had the thought a while ago of Bunga falling to his death and I was like “what if I took that gag a bit more seriously” advjfvnsjvnsj
