Chapter 1: The SOS
Scene 1
Chell awakes in a wheat field during the daytime. She climbs off of a bed she made from a potato sack stuffed with wheat. A burnt pile of wheat used for a campfire lies next to her. She looks around at the campsite. There is a star map and the Companion Cube. Player 1 takes control of Chell.
Instructions: Look Up (key)
Chell looks up
Ins: Look Down (key)
Chell looks down
Ins: Walk to Companion Cube (key) to Move
Chell walks to the Companion Cube
Ins Pick Up Object (key)
Ins: Chell moves slower when carrying objects without the portal gun

Ins: Go back to sleep
Computer takes control of Chell.

Title Card: Chapter 1: The SOS
Scene 2
Chell wakes up once more from the potato sack bed. This time, it is night. Chell stuffs the star map into the sack and puts it over her shoulder. She picks up the companion cube and begins walking north.
Chell’s Brain: I can use the star map to determine north
Player 1 takes control of Chell
Ins: (key) Open Sack

Chell should use the star map to find north, and go that way.
Chell walks north for a while

Scene 3
Still under Player 1’s control, Chell walks until railroad tracks come into view. When Chell is close enough, a horn blares and a train comes.
Ins: (key) Jump
Chell jumps on the train and begins to walk through the cars. She is discovered and knocked unconscious by combines.
Computer takes control of Chell
--White Out--
Scene 4
Chell comes round and discovers herself locked in a train car. The voice of the train engineer over the speaker begins.
Engineer (OS): I do not know where you came from, but we cannot let you go. This train holds too many secrets. We are unsure if you have discovered any, but better safe than sorry. We do not want Black Mesa’s Agents to discover-- (cut off)
*crashing noise*
Engineer: GORDON FREEMAN?
*speaker cuts off, static*
Player 1 takes control of chell
Chell moves things around to build a stair to the top hatch. Leaving behind her Companion Cube. Chell exits the car and walks across the roof to the next one. Walking on the roof of the next one, she hears voices.
Alyx: Well, Gordon, I think that is all of them. I think this train will do for a base before-- (cut off)
The roof gives way under Chell and she falls in front of Gordon Freeman and Alyx from Half Life.
Alyx: Who are you?
*silence*
Alyx: Well, it does not matter. You look like a refugee, and any refugee is a friend of ours. I’m Alyx, this is Gordon Freeman, we are running a resistance against those horrible beasts Black Mesa introduced to this world. We could use this train as a base, but we seriously need some sort of tech that outmatches theirs. Unfortunately, Black Mesa will not be of much help. The combines were able to monitor their tech, and now they have what Black Mesa has. Gordon, get the train going, maybe we can find a station or something.
Alyx tells Chell the Half Life storyline, when suddenly they hear sounds. Gordon loses control of the train, and it suddenly stops. Dozens of combines crash in through the windows and doors. They are approaching Chell, Alyx, and Gordon, when the train shoots forward and into a tunnel. Then the train stops. The combines get closer and closer to Chell, when suddenly, The lights go out. It is pitch black, and a familiar voice is heard.
GLaDOS: I’m afraid i can’t let you do that.
*turret sounds are heard*
The lights come back on. The combines are stunned on the train floor. The doors open, revealing a platform. Player 2 takes control of Gordon Freeman, and Player 3 takes control of Alyx. The team steps off the train, and through a door. the door locks behind them, and panels move away to reveal the Aperture Science Facility.
GLaDOS: This may sound strange, but i need your help.
Three elevators are sent down, the players each climb in one, and they go down.
Alyx: I don’t believe it! We have stumbled upon the Aperture Science Facility! There is no telling what we will find down here useful!
GLaDOS: I see you brought some friends. I recognized the mute as the man from Black Mesa. Perhaps they can be of use.
The elevators end up in a hallway.
GLaDOS: Just down the hall.
GLaDOS begins to explain how combines have snuck in and have taken over a corner of the facility. She cannot locate them or kill them, and they are causing her a lot of grief. She asks their help in the fight against the combines. At the end of the hall, is a large circular room. Player 4 takes control of GLaDOS

GLaDOS activates pistons (after learning how to play) one at a time that reveal devices for the team.
GLaDOS: For you Chell, no surprises. Your dual portal device and the long fall boots.
Chell tests out the portal device, but it shorts out, leaving the single portal device.
GLaDOS: I’ll have to fix that, but moving on. Mr. Freeman, you look like you have enough, fuse boxes and control panels should help power your suit. Alyx, I created the reprogrammer. You will have to fight machines along the way, and the reprogrammer reverses their program. Attack an enemy machine, and it will fight for you. Attack an ally machine, and it will fight against you. Shoot an excursion funnel, and it will reverse direction. I guess you could use it.
*alarm bells*
The floor collapses, separating the party.
GLaDOS: Oh dear, it seems we may have a problem

(Each player selects one character and plays their individual campaign. Upon completion of each individual campaign, Co-Op is unlocked, and the following menu is presented on load)

Update: The combines have also prevented GLaDOS from using the test subjects found in the co-op campaign, giving her the itch. so, the players have to test periodically as well.
