I created this one after reading that Chicago -- which bans guns to supposedly curb gun violence -- had a mind-blowing 54 gun victims and 10 deaths in just one weekend recently. Chicago's mayor still believes that bans work, even though the ban has actually helped criminals more than innocent folks. The ban will be ruled on by the Supreme Court in upcoming weeks (as of June 27, 2010).

The character of Eileen Dover is actually (sadly) a composite of two people whom I used to know. One was a grad school classmate who believed that governments can ban bad things out of existence. The second was a person I used to interact with on an old blog who hated the Patriot Act until President Obama won the White House. From that point on she adopted the previously conservative view that if you do nothing wrong, you don't have anything to worry about.
