Description
Let's call this political, as I can't think of a better category. As everyone knows, the Berlin Wall fell 9 November, 1989. Despite what the government of East Germany said, the Wall was not built to keep the world out, it was to keep the people of the East in. The Wall divided a major European capital city, something that the rest of the world thought was impossible. Thankfully, the Wall "came down" on 9 November and was physically taken down soon after.
The line where the Wall ran is marked with this line of bricks, so that no one ever forgets. This spot is right near the Potsdamer Platz U-Bahn station, and it has the dates of the Wall on it.
Another thing I'd like to add: the German language has two words for wall, Wand and Mauer. Wand is the words used to describe the outside wall of a house (a stucco wall is the example I was given). Mauer is the word used for A. a wall built of stone, and B. a wall used to divide between rooms. This is why it's called the Berliner Mauer, because it was put there to divide a city, a country, and to divide the world.
