Description
This statue is called (so our tour guide said) the Darth Vader of Prague. Not sure if he was pulling my leg or not, but I can see the comparison....We took a ghost tour in Prague and heard a story about this man: he was a knight and after returning from the Thirty Years War, he came back to Prague to hear some unpleasant rumors about his wife-to-be; people were saying that while he was away, her virginity was now in doubt.
Since he didn't correct these rumors, the woman killed herself from the shame. Realizing what he had done, he killed himself too, and now his spirit is doomed to haunt the basement of the building that his statue stands in front of. And one night every hundred years, he appears in that basement, chained to the wall, with nothing to do but lament about his life.
The story goes that he can be freed if a virgin stays in the room with him for one hour. But since Prague is (supposedly) the most promiscuous city in Europe, our tour guide said that he doubted this would ever happen. Alas, the knight is cursed to forever haunt that cellar.
