Description
November 1992 - The United States was gone, but the Free States Of America picked up the torch and kept democracy going. Jesse Jackson, the founder of the Free States, had won a second term in 1988 but was not constitutionally eligible for reelection in 1992. The electoral college had been abolished in 1987, so the popular vote decided the election. The Democrats nominated former president Robert Kennedy, still being eligible due to only serving one term. The Republican Party collapsed in 1985, but the party’s unofficial successor was the “New America Coalition”, formed in 1990 and made up of primarily moderate former-republicans and even some democrats. Bob Dole, a senator from Kansas who fled from the Plains Federation to the Free States in 1986, was the NAC nominee. In the end, RFK won the election. The election was the most peaceful one since 1972, with no riots or assasination attempts taking place. This is part of my "The Red Order" series which can be found here:
