Part three of my Scooby-Doo weight gain story.“Looks like we got ourselves another mystery.”
Shortly after Fred had said that the gang heard that someone was returning to the pressroom. Looking at the cracked up entrance they saw Jeremy approach half jogging and half breathless. “Huh-huh Sorry I’m late, I looked everywhere for my medal but I couldn’t find it. Have I missed anything im…por…tant?” Jeremy said as he slowly started to see that the place didn’t look like it use to. “WHAT DID I MISS?!” Jeremy shouted shocked. “Here looks like a hurricane has gone lose! And Doctor Dinkleyberg are you alright?” He said as he rushed to the doctor, almost knocking Velma out of the way as she was helping her uncle to get on his feet again. “I’m fine Jeremy, I’m fine.” “But what happen? What on earth did happen here?” Jeremy asked both confused and scared. “Would you believe us if we told you that there was a big dog like creature that looked like it had been eating a whole buffet before getting here that had trashed the room?” Fred asked. Jeremy just started awkwardly at Fred for a moment before saying, “Probably not, but I guess you wouldn’t be making something that strange up to me.”
“Have I also missed something?” A voice suddenly said behind Shaggy and Scooby, who both jumped to the sides of surprise. It was Clara, (who had once again suddenly appeared in the room silently) sipping on a coffee. “Like zoinks! Where did you come from?” Shaggy shouted. “From the entrance, duh.” Clara said as she took another sip. “Say, you weren’t present at the press conference either when the monster attacked.” Fred realized. “We know why Jeremy couldn’t make it, but why did you have to leave?” “Felt that I needed a coffee.” Clara answered calmly. “Thought this was going to be a long dragged out thing, so I decided to walk of to get a coffee and then walk back.” “So you didn’t see the monster leave the room before returning?” Daphne asked. “No I didn’t see any kind of monster.” Clara answered, “But that would explain why this place looks like it became the result of a typhoon.”
Seeing something strange Velma crouched down to look at the crush mark the monster left when it landed on the floor. “What have you found Velma?” Fred asked. “I see something strange in the marks the monster left.” “What do you see?” Daphne asked. “It leaved not only marks of it paws but also from its belly on the floor, but the strange things is that the mark from the belly seems to be deeper then the marks from the paws.” “Which means?” Fred asked, “That there was more weight and force in the belly, then in the paws.” Velma said. “Like, no offence to your way of thinking Velma,” Shaggy added, “But did you see that thing? It was so enormous that it made Scooby look slim in comparison…No offence Scoob.” Shaggy said looking at Scooby who frowned back at Shaggy.
“Wait…” Clara says, “You’re saying that this creature that was here looked a bit like him, (pointing at Scooby) but bigger?” “Yes, why do you wonder?” Velma asks. “Well, I think what is running around here could be The Failed Experiment.” “Gulp, The f-failed e-experiment?” Shaggy asked scared. “Yes.” Clara answered, “The story talks about an experiment taking place here about a dog, which was having a bit of a weight problem. The doctors were testing a new medicine that would help making all extra weight on a dog to instantly disappear, but something went horrible wrong. Instead of losing its weight, the dog became taller, wider, and more evil. It became an uncontrolled monster that burst out of the experiment room, and disappeared into the building. Since then a few people have claimed to seen it moving around in the shadows, but no real proofs has been made…Until now.” “Excuse me.” Fred interrupted. “But who do you know about this whole back-story?” “I have been picking up a few rumours and stories about this place by listening on all the gossips the other employers say.” “So you intentionally overhears when your colleagues are talking to each others?” Daphne asked. “What can I say? It is things like this that makes getting to work so much more interesting.” Clara answered. “Now if I can go back to my working place right now?” “Are you not afraid of the monster running around in here?” Doctor Dinkleyberg asked. ”I don’t want to risk leaving my workplace and get a phone call the next day saying I’m fired because of it. I’ll take my chances with this overfed pup any day.” Clara said and walked away towards her reception.
“Well, if we are going to get anywhere solving this we need to start look after clues.” Fred said. “I, Daphne and Velma goes and look for clues as one group, and Shaggy you and Scooby look for clues together.” “Sigh, isn’t it always that way things goes?” Shaggy asked Scooby.
As Fred and the girl went to look around in test labs and workers offices for clues, Shaggy and Scooby knew just the right place for them to look. The companies dinning hall. Being a big place with hundreds of employees it had a huge dinning hall. “A good place for someone to hide “”Clues”” Shaggy hinted to Scooby, as they both walked towards it. After the monster attack earlier nearly everybody who worked there had leaved the building, leaving the whole place for Shaggy and Scooby to have for themselves. As they walked through the hall they saw something that hooked their interest. The storage room for the food. Having around a hundred employees also means that the amount of food being served daily must be astronomical.
Opening the door to the storage room Shaggy and Scooby’s wildest dreams came true. Inside was probably the biggest room filled with food their ever seen, and just like the last place they did this on there was only one door in and out of it that they could lock up tight. Scooby was on his way to rush over and eat when Shaggy stops him by grabbing his collar. “No, no, Scooby. Do you remember what the other in the gang told you after the camp incident?” Shaggy asked Scooby, “Sigh, to not reat ranything in my rurrent rondition.” Scooby said disappointed. “Listen Scooby, I know I don’t like it either for you to not being allowed to feast on food like before, but you must understand that we only do this because we care about you.” “Ryou’re ronly roing rhis recause ryou’re rafraid I’ll rtake you in ranother reating rompetition.” Scooby mumble angrily. “What? No. We’re doing it because we want to help you’re health, and besides there’s no way you would win over me again.” Shaggy said convinced. “Rhen rhy ront ryou rwant rto rhallenge rme?” Scooby asked teasingly. “Because I promised the others to keep you in place.” Shaggy said, starting to become annoyed. “Ris rit recause ryou’re rhicken?” Scooby said cocky. This touched a very sensitive spot on Shaggy that thought about either keeping the word to his friends, or to keep his pride. After a moment of thinking about it Shaggy turned to Scooby and said, “Let’s do it.”
And with that Shaggy and Scooby had a new eating competition. Both sides worked hard trying to gather as much food around them and eat it as fast as possible, but like last time Shaggy had to find himself defeated by Scooby, this time it was because Scooby’s body, thanks to his added weight now had more room for food, leaving Shaggy as big at the end of their previous feast and Scooby twice as big as before they started. While he had earlier been able to walk almost normally, (despite his big hanging belly) he was now struggling a lot in just trying to have the strength to walk with his now super sized middle.
As Shaggy tried desperately to keep up the pace with Scooby, he reached behind him and grabbed a box filled with what looked to be crackers. But stopping it into his mouth and try chewing Shaggy felt something very hard and metallic. Spitting it out Shaggy took some other of that stuff and looked at it. It was small and flat, and filled with all kinds of little electronics. Grabbing the box from where he had found them Shaggy read “Electros Electrical Data chips” on the label. “Why would someone like to hide Data chips in here?” Shaggy asked. “I ron’t rnow?” Scooby answered. After thinking for a moment Shaggy suddenly said, “I think it’s a clue.” “A rlue?” Scooby said surprised. “Why so surprised Scooby? I told you that this was the place to find clues.” Shaggy said in triumph.
As Shaggy and Scooby got themselves up from the floor, Shaggy open the door to look out over the dinning hall. “In think the coast is clear.” He whispered as both he and Scooby started to walk out of the storage room, while carrying the small box of data chips. Even so it didn’t take long before they both heard a familiar sound. The sound of a door slamming shut, followed by the angry growl of a wild beast. Looking back slowly Shaggy and Scooby saw the same overweight dog creature that he been seen at the press conference. Feeling a bit déjà vu at first Shaggy and Scooby then found the will to start running. Despite their once again stuffed bodies they both managed to pick up a great pace as the monster was chasing them. They where just as surprise over the monster being able to pick up its speed just as the monster was over theirs. Just like last time they had a chase Shaggy saw a something blocking their path. This time it was an area of the place that was under construction and one of the planks was hanging out to the side, just like that branch at the campsite. Just like last time Shaggy forced the thing blocking (The plank) out of the way, and had it flying back towards Scooby again. This time Scooby remembered what to do and dodged under it sending it instead into the face of the monster, which tumbled over because of the impact and gave Shaggy and Scooby a chance to escape.
After running for a while they both hide around a corner to get a chance to catch their breaths. Looking down on himself Shaggy saw that he had once again lost his extra weight thanks to the running. “Works every time…” Shaggy was saying until he saw Scooby, and saw that while he had lost all the weight he gained during this eating, he still had the same overweight as before the started.
Fred and the girls on the other hand had found their own kind of clue, footmarks from the monster. As they followed it they found out that it lead them to what seemed like someone’s office. Before going in Daphne looked around the entrance and said, “Wait a minute! I recognize this place. This is the same place from we stood waiting with you’re uncle while his assistance went in to get the secret project.” “Yes, you’re right.” Fred said, “This is the same place. But why would a monster want to break in here?” “Maybe there is something in here that it wants.” Velma said and entered the room first.
Looking inside Velma didn’t see any monster inside and told the others that “The coast is clear.” As they walked in they all saw that the whole room was a mess. There was papers spread all over the floor, tables and shelves tipped over, and foot stamps and claw marks on the floor and the walls. But in all this chaos there still was a bit of a clear path to follow. The steps on the floor lead to a safe that was mounted on one of the walls, ripped open and emptied by its content. Velma leaned over to get a closer look and Fred asked, “What do you think was in there?” “I don’t know,” Velma answered, “But if we could find out what was in this safe to begin with, and why the monster would like to steal it, we might be close to solving this mystery.”
Walking back trying to find the gang and shove them the clue that they found, Shaggy and Scooby walked right pass the desk from where Clara was working, or rather would be working if she had been there. “Like Scooby,” Shaggy said, “That creepy lady who sits there isn’t there. Do you know what that means?” “No Rhaggy I ron’t.” Scooby answered. “If she isn’t here where is she?” Shaggy asked, “She’s probably running around this place dressed up as the failed experiment.” It took a few seconds for Scooby to understand how Shaggy was thinking, but as soon as he understood he was completely thinking along the same lines as his friend. “Are ryou rure?” He asked, “Of course I am. It fits so perfectly.” Shaggy said. “We where chased by the thing just a few moments ago, and now where here with no Clara working.” As Shaggy went on Scooby became more and more convinced that Shaggy was right. “Ryeah, ryou’re right, Rlara is the ronster.” “We have to find the gang and show them Scoob.” Shaggy said as both he and Scooby run of to find the rest of the gang.
They didn’t have to run more then to the next room to find them. “Hey guys, did you find any clues?” Fred asked, “Better then that, we find proof of who did it.” Shaggy said eagerly. “Really?!” Fred and the girls said surprised. “Yeah, and you will never believe who it is.” Shaggy said excited. “Rit’s Rlara!” Scooby said just as excited as Shaggy. “Oh Scoob, you just revealed it.” Shaggy said disappointed. “Rops! Rorry Rhaggy.” Scooby said feeling bad. “Wait, Wait, Wait.” Fred said, “You’re saying that Clara is the monster?” “Yes, that’s what where been saying.” Shaggy said. “Do you have any proof to that she is the monster?” Velma asked. “Well…not exactly.” Shaggy said a bit defeated. “But we where chased by the monster just recently very near the place where Clara works, and when we walked past it she wasn’t there.” “That actually sounds like to much of a coincidence to not be related.” Fred said. “We can show you, her workplace is just around this corner.” Shaggy said, as both he and Scooby dragged their friends with them.
As the gang got back to Clara’s working place they found her sitting on her chair, working on her computer. “And this proves?” Fred said. “We swear she wasn’t there a minute ago.” Shaggy and Scooby said. “I couldn’t help hearing that you where talking about me,” Clara’s voice interrupted, “So was it anything special you wanted, or did you just come here to disturb me?” “It’s just our friends thinking you weren’t here earlier, thinking you where chasing them around as the monster.” Fred explained. “Well I never,” Clara said, sounding really angry. “You two have the gut to go and spread rumours about me, thinking you can accuse me for doing things I haven’t done. I have done nothing else but to sit here, working on my computer, sipping my coffee, ever since I got back from the press conference!” Feeling really sacred of her now Shaggy and Scooby took and hide behind Fred who said, “We’re sorry for interrupting you, and we shall leave you all alone now.”
Walking away from the reception Shaggy and Scooby looked at their friends and said, “You have to believe us, we would never lie to you, and she really wasn’t sitting there earlier.” Hushing them Fred pulled them closer to him and whispered, “Listen, We believe you guys.” “You do?” Shaggy and Scooby asked surprised. “When you two where getting scolded by Clara, Velma saw something very suspicious on her desk. “She did?” Shaggy and Scooby asked as they looked over at Velma. “While Clara was distracted by you two I saw that her coffee looked both cold and untouched, meaning that she must have leaved her workplace for a while to do something else.” Velma explained. “Then why did you guys not say that to her?” Shaggy asked. “Because we didn’t want her to know that we’re suspecting her. If she only thinks you two guys where believing something and later dropped it, she would think she was much safer now.” Fred said.
“But anyway, did you find any other clues?” Velma asked. “Yes, we found a box full with data chips that someone had hid.” Shaggy said, and showed them the box. “Why would someone want to hide data chips?” Fred asked. “Especially when most of the machines they use here is already built and installed before being shipped here.” Velma said. “What shall we do now?” Daphne asked, “We should try and find Doctor Dinkleyberg, and ask him about the contents that was in that safe.” Fred said.
After searching for some time they found the doctor wandering by himself in the hallways. “Uncle!” Velma shouted to get his attention. “Oh, hello Velma. Have you and you’re friends made any progress in solving this mystery?” The doctor asked. “We are making progress yes,” Velma said, “But we are having some problems that I think only you can help us with.” “And what would that be?” The doctor asked. “We believe that the reason for the monster doing this might have to do with whatever you and you’re assistant Jeremy was working on, and if we’re are going to be able to solve it we need to know what secret project you where planning to show earlier.” The doctor took a deep sigh and put his hands into his coat pockets. “I though this thing I was working on wouldn’t create so much trouble if as few people as possible knew about it, but seeing how things are now I think it would be best if I tell you kids now. The secret project I have been working on this whole time is…”
Just as the doctor was about to say it the monster dog creature burst out of the floor, grabbed the doctor and dragged him down into the dark of the cellar. “Uncle no!!!” Velma screamed as she tried to grab his hand before vanishing.
While the gang tried to comfort Velma who was feeling devastated of seeing her uncle get dragged underground by the monster, they hear the sound of someone approaching from behind them. Turning around they saw that it was Jeremy running as fast as he could towards them. “I heard the sound of thing getting destroyed and a growl from a beast, what happen?” “The monster suddenly appeared from the ground and took doctor Dinkleyberg down with it.” Fred explained. “No! NO!!! That’s not true! Tell me it’s not true!” Jeremy said while starting to get another panic attack. “Take it easy,” Fred said trying to calm him down,”You where nowhere near when it happen, so there was nothing you could do about it.” “Speaking of which, why didn’t you keep him company and tried to protect him?” Velma asked upset. “I wanted to, but he insisted on telling me that he could handle himself, and after a while I gave in and let him be.” “You did it because you trusted him Jeremy.” Fred said, “It’s in no way you’re fault.” “T-Thanks Fred,” Jeremy said, getting calmer. “I think I’ll go and clear my head a little.” Jeremy said, and walked down the corridor and around a corner.
While Jeremy was leaving the gang where all turning their heads at his way, facing away from the pit that the monster had created, and as they did that a couple of glowing eyes where being visible in the dark. Seeing Scooby’s tail waving above the hole the creature inside reached out it hand and grabbed it. Scooby yelped in pain, and before anyone of the gang had time to react Scooby was dragged into the hole. Everyone of the gang just stood shocked over what’s happen except Shaggy who reached his head into the hole and shouted,
“SCOOBY DOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
