Description The beautiful waters of the bahamas.

:UPDATE:
ok I cropped out a bit of the sky, saturated the colors a bit more and adjusted the brightness. Also added a border.
What do you guys think?
Couldn't figure out how to "fix" the left side at the horizon line. It's still fuzzy lookin to me..
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am quite happy with how this came out but I would love to hear a critique or two on how I can improve it.Mainly I'm concerned about the sky. Since the focus is on the water, should I crop out more of the sky? or maybe if I brighten it up a bit. I am still learning PS so any tips would be appreciated.
I don't know what to say about this piece, but I like how you show the balance of the clear and dark water. This is so beautiful.
Sepulchral-Roses In reply to ??? [2010-01-12 21:22:41 +0000 UTC]
hello, i'm =Sepulchral-Roses . i'd like to start off by mentioning that this is absolutely gorgeous. the colors reflected in the water are stunning - and oddly enough, the water doesn't appear to reflect the sky. water is "blue" because it tends to reflect the sky above, and, in this case, that doesn't seem to be the case, which is interesting.
i would suggest cropping the sky down to where that hole in the clouds is, right around the blindingly white cloud in the background.
if you can, you should try to add a mask over it, even just a simple gray-white layer on low opacity [but just over that brightbright cloud].
you could also increase the hue/saturation on the water on the far side of the barrier - it seems like a stormy atlantic blue rather than a balmy bahama teal. try upping the contrast or just another layer of turquoise-green over that area.
in addition, try to make the horizon line more distinct on the left - while you can see it, the gray-blue of the clouds too closely mirrors that part of the water. this may or may not be fixed by the above step, depending on how good you are with PS. you could maybe try the dodge/burn tool set to dodge and lighten a thin line there, and then the burn to add a thinner dark line below the light one. that may help create more distinction.
overall, this picture is gorgeous, even without editing - it caught my attention and made me think, so a thumbs up for that!
p.s. i apologize if the photoshop stuff i mention doesn't make much sense to you - i don't own ps [i use the gimp if i ever find the need to edit images] and i'm assuming that the tools are the same or similar. if not, sorry!
pps. i'm posting this as a comment so #GimmeFeedback can register it, but also as a critique so this photo can get that recognition. (:
Thanks so much for the critique. It's very helpful and I really appreciate it. I think most people agree that I should crop the sky a bit so I think I will do that and see what happens. It was indeed a stormy day so thats why the clouds are the way they are. I will definately try out your suggestions. I think they will help alot!
I have to say right now, this shot is just amazing. I wouldn't worry about the sky at all, the angle and composition is just wonderful, and the color is almost unreal.
As far as cropping, if cropped out the top half of the sky and left the rest, I think that would look really nice as well. Like, maybe just above, but not right on top of, that bright spot in the clouds.
Nice work, this is an awesome shot. Keep up the good work!
wow!!
it look great how did you catch the end of the line all together. the cloud give it a nice view and how it connect, it is really relaxing.
and love the all blue thing it would be great that the green part that divide the sea form the shore but it still great!!
i'd say crop out just a little bit of the sky. a lot of detail and more color seems to be coming from the water and below, so naturally the eye goes that way. i would suggest cropping it right above the bright spot in the sky. that way u get a smooth transition from sky (bright) to water/land (some shades darker) then to a lighter color to sooth and balance everything out (bottom portion of water).
it's a great photograph! and the colors look so inviting! never been to the bahamas. but your piece here has convinced me i need to go. lol great job on it!
The blue water is very pretty. I like the diagonal visual divisions the green path and the submerged one (just sand, maybe?) create.
As for the sky... maybe it is a little flat. But if you brighten it or increase the contrast, the overexposed section on the right could become bigger and draw too much attention to it.
Perhaps you could try to eliminate the sky completely leaving just the water. That would match your title quite accurately.
I hope this is useful to you.
Thanks! I also thought the diagonal lines helped this pic out a bit. Makes it interestingf to see the differences in the colors of the water here
Oh, that's kind of hard to decide. The sky looks nice in there. I would get a frame, or open box of some sort and move it around the image to see if there is anything you want to crop out. I don't mind the sky the way it is though.
i agree on brightening your image up...the simplest way to do this on PS is to duplicate your base on your layers palette ans set the duplicated layer on screen mode...
i hope this helps
It's a very lovely pic, the only thing I can say, maybe the clouds so grey. U could do something with it, yes, as you wrote, lighten up, brighten up, or give a little blue colour to them.
Anyway, Great work!
