Description as I was editing this a while ago, the entire text section got deleted and there was nothing I could do about it. I didn't have an up-to-date version of it saved anywhere, so I had to make updates as I went along. Apologies for any inaccuracies, I tried my best to fix it, but I might have missed something

POSITIVE:

Trait1 > Individualistic: Cryoseism prefers to handle things alone, and to him, that’s the most reliable way to do things.

Trait2 > Caring: Those he is close to are worth only the best from him. He spares no effort in making the ones he loves happy. It’s just that gaining that status is a bit… difficult.

Trait3 > Loyal: If you somehow manage to gain the trust of Cryoseism, he will be loyal to you almost beyond belief. For once he knows someone is truly worth the effort, he will do his best to keep them in his life.

NEUTRAL:

Trait1 > Fight Loving: The core reason behind everything he does is to improve himself and get stronger, especially through fighting. He relishes the struggle between opponents for victory. Socially acceptable or not, his will to fight comes first and foremost almost always.

Trait2 > Calculating: Cryoseism takes the time to see how strong whoever he meets may be. For, if they look like a worthy opponent, he might want to spend more time with them. But if they’re weak, he doesn’t want to waste any more time than necessary. Still, one could consider this “judging a book by its cover”, which isn’t always the best thing.

Trait3 > Distrustful: He doesn’t trust anyone or anything easily, and is always on his guard when it comes to others. Even those being genuine must expend quite a bit of energy to be trusted.

Trait4 > Deceptive: Oftentimes, he will hide his dislike of something through a mask of friendliness. And while he has almost always started with this facade, the mask will always fall eventually. It’s just a matter of how quickly one can manage it.

NEGATIVE:

Trait1 > Impatient: He has no time for those who are below him. If he doesn’t think you might be able to provide a challenge or have anything useful for him, he likely won’t stay very long.

Trait2 > Irritable: Despite the fact he can hide it well, if you aren’t worth anything to him other than information, he will easily find himself annoyed by other dragons.

Trait3 > Cold: If you haven’t proven that you can be of value to him, or somehow made him care about you, once he’s got what he needs, he has no problem tossing you aside.

History is long, scroll to the end of each section for a summary. Though, please be aware I’m not the best at summarizing things.

Baby Dragonet >

Cryoseism was a Skywing-Icewing hybrid, hatched in the outskirts of the Ice Kingdom. It was only a couple days after his brother, Freezerburn, had hatched. The two were the dragonets of a male Skywing named Fallstreak and an Icewing named Wintergreen. The two of them lived near the edge of the Ice Kingdom and Sand Kingdom, as a sort of middle ground. Any further out, and Wintergreen could be miserable, but any further in and Fallstreak would freeze to death.

That’s why they accept the middle, even if it wasn’t perfect. But that’s what the two dragons seemed to be about, making the imperfections work. The two seemed to love each other quite a lot, at least in Cryoseism’s (as the time) childish view of the world. Wintergreen was a kind and loving mother to both him and Freezerburn, while Fallstreak took more of a stricter approach, but still loved his dragonets.

This period of his life was like a childish bliss compared to the rest of his life, so innocent and blissful. It seemed to be only about what he wanted, just having fun with Fallstreak and his parents. Still, such ignorance and purity does not last forever…

Summary: I think this is short enough to read without a summary lol

Dragonet >

Four years had gone by since he and Solflare had hatched. By now, much to their interest and joy, Wintergreen had had two more eggs, of which were meant to hatch soon. Within the two eggs were his siblings, something he was excited to have. After all, he loved his family very much, so it could only be better if there were more! He and his brother Freezerburn eagerly awaited the hatching of these two eggs, impatient and anxious to meet their new siblings.

Though, sadly, it seemed to prove something that they should not have wished to come so soon. For the day that the two eggs hatched, their father, Fallstreak, left. To Cryoseism and Freezerburn, it didn’t quite make sense yet, as they didn’t quite understand the adult world. They were just dragonets, after all. At first they asked where he was going, but their mother said “away.” Slightly disheartened by the answer, they asked for how long. She said she didn’t know.

The same answer was not given when they asked why. For that question, they were met only with silence. A couple seconds, then a minute, then more minutes passed in the moment. But finally, their mother, Wintergreen, told them that they were alone now. That they should forget Fallstreak. If not for their sake, for hers. But if not even for her sake, for their new siblings’, Solflare and Blizzard’s, sake. And although the two of them didn’t understand why, they said they would try.

This proved to be his first lie.

After all, how could he forget the father who left them alone, just when his support would’ve been helpful. Just when two new dragonets could’ve used a second parent. Their mother was horribly overworked from trying to take care of the four of them and earn enough money to get them by, so Cryoseism and Freezerburn decided to help out more than they’d already been doing. They both got jobs, despite the fact many dragons were hesitant to hire younger dragonets like this.

For months, this was the case, and it seemed to be working. Wintergreen had more time to rest, despite being hesitant about letting them do so much in the first place. And thankfully, the two brothers had managed to conceal the whole thing from their younger siblings, who only knew of the sweet result, never sensing anything wrong in the first place.

This routine continued for a while, with the both of them handling things well. Of course, Freezerburn, who was older, was still a bit better at it than him, but he didn’t mind very much. As long as they were both striving to be better. As long as they kept providing their younger siblings and mother with a good life, it was alright.

One day, while both he and Freezerburn were delivering some swords and armor a dragon had ordered for a costume, their little sister, Solflare, saw them. Solflare loved reading or hearing stories, especially those of fairy tales with brave dragon knights who always saved the day. Seeing the two of them with such gear, considering her impressively vast knowledge on terms that were used for knights, she said they looked like a chevalier and a childe. Hearing such a thing, the two of them laughed, but Solflare explained further.

How Freezerburn looked like a chevalier training a childe into the ways of knighthood, and Cryoseism was eagerly learning. The terms intrigued the two, but they didn’t think too much about it. They just praised their little sister for knowing so much, before continuing on with their delivery that day. That was the first time he was called such a name. He quite liked it.

But it wasn’t anything they thought about very much, and continued their lives like normal afterwards. Taking whatever odd jobs around their town that the dragons would give them. Their lives were wonderful, and all were happy once more. Their siblings got to live in the ignorant bliss of dragonethood that they themselves had abandoned long ago. But it was the fullest life they could think of living, because he had his family, and they had him.

It was just over a year later when something truly unexpected happened. Cryoseism had just turned seven by now, and both he and Freezerburn still did whatever they could to support their family. Freezerburn was helping out with cleaning a dragon’s shop, while Cryoseism was delivering something to a dragon who lived a bit far out. It seemed to be a normal day, where they just continued on with their lives. Nothing out of the ordinary.

That was, until, as Cryoseism walked past a cave entrance and heard a scream. A cry for help, if you will. His curiosity and concern got the better of him almost instantly. Setting down what he was supposed to be delivering, he left it at the cave entrance and headed in. At first, he was cautious, but as the cries for help grew louder, he went faster, beginning to run. Turning a corner, he entered a much larger chamber of the cave than the tunnel he’d been going down.

And there, finally, he saw the source of the screams. The one crying and pleading for help, whose yells had managed to pique his curiosity enough to get him down into the cave. To temporarily abandon his responsibility and do something for himself, even if he thought it was for another dragon. All that, with but a single yell. That was what one dragon alone accomplished, even if that was not their goal.

Before him was a dragon he’d never seen before, seeming to be trapped in a cage. Judging from the colorful scales, they were most likely a Rainwing. And from the looks of things, she was very cold. Clearly not an Icewing hybrid. But… Why would a Rainwing be in a cage here? Despite the fact it escaped him, the Rainwing was a piece of merchandise in the midst of being moved to a buyer. Nothing made any sense to him. But that wasn’t the point, so he set aside his confusion and walked up to the dragon.

Cryoseism wasted no time in getting down to business, he had something he had to do and was nervous as to the reason a Rainwing would be down here. Clearly someone or something had put the dragon there. And whatever that was, he didn’t want to be caught by it and trapped there as well. He asked the dragon why she was down here, and if she knew of any way to get out of the cage. He didn’t bother asking who she was, as it wouldn’t help him in this situation.

The Rainwing told him she had simply been taken there one day, and, while she was fed often enough to survive, she missed her home. Such a miserable existence could barely be considered living, anyway. She told him that she’d seen someone with a key go down further into the deeper parts of the cave. However, just as Cryoseism was about to go find it, she stopped him.

She said she knew it was just a decoy. That the true key was simply the serrated claws of an Icewing. The key was only used to confuse her. She told him her captors clearly thought she was stupid as any other Rainwing could be, and simply put a mediocre amount of effort into hiding that they used their claws to unlock the lock, and were too obvious with showing her where the key went.

Cryoseism, still suspicious of such a simple answer, cautiously placed his claw in the lock, twisting it to open it. And although there was a moment of doubt, it seemed to actually work. The door of the cage unlocked, and the Rainwing stepped out. She spoke of how long it had been since she had been able to stretch and move freely, and how thankful she was that someone had found her.

Though, their conversation was cut short as voices were heard from the cave entrance. Using the classic Rainwing ability to camouflage herself, she became invisible. But she wasn’t quite done talking to Cryoseism. She said that, although she doubted they’d meet again, that her name was Hoatzin. With that, she left, leaving Cryoseism on his own.

The situation was… unfavorable for him. He was stuck in a strange cave, the only dragon who would’ve helped him having already fled, and had no weapon to fight with. Dragons he didn’t know were approaching, likely just around the corner. He didn’t know what to do, and tried desperately to think of a plan. But he didn’t have the time, and they saw him.

A moment of hesitation seemed to come across them. It was three dragons, all of which were both older and larger than him. They were completely blocking the way out, and the two who seemed to be like guards to the one in the front looked armed. Before even a moment passed, they looked at the cage, and saw it opened. And then the leader’s face contorted in a fit of pure rage.

He began to yell about his live decoration being released, and how much that would cost Cryoseism. But he didn’t bother listening, because he knew if he couldn’t at least get the weapon from one of the guards, he stood no chance here. Despite having very little experience in combat, he knew he had to make it out of there. He had to survive for his siblings. For Blizzard and Solflare, and keep Freezerburn and Wintergreen from having to look after them alone. That was what he rooted in his heart, making it his reason to survive.

So as the one who seemed to be the leader began his yelling, Cryoseism was already making his move. Dashing for the guard on his right, he made a move to grab the spear on their back. But it seemed that they managed to evade, at least slightly, sidestepping to avoid him, with him in the end landing awkwardly on the guard’s wing. As he leapt back to the wall in order to try again, the guard he’d hit clutched his wing membrane in pain.

Seeing it as an opportunity, Cryoseism used his hind legs to power himself off the wall and into the guard, trying to grab the spear. But just as he got his talons on it, another spear swung by his neck, scratching him lightly. It had been only pure luck that kept him from being fatally wounded there. And he didn’t want to rely on such luck again.

Quickly taking the spear from the guard he’d originally gone for, he breathed a quick bit of frostbreath on at the dragon’s feet, trying to hold him in place, or at the very least, buy him some time. So without a moment of hesitation, as he knew he lacked the time to, he tried to hit the guard which was still armed with the spear he now had.

Before the spear could get close to the guard, another spear was raised to parry his. Without adequate knowledge of how to fight with a spear, he didn’t know how to get past this. What should he do to keep him from blocking again? What should he do to not get hit? Where should he aim? Countless thoughts like these raced through his mind. He really didn’t know what to do here, and he despised it. He could lose his life because he hadn’t been strong enough.

So, just willing to try anything, jumped at the dragon, spear in hand, just trying to get close. However, while he was still in the air, the guard quickly turned, kicking him with one of their back legs. Cryoseism was sent flying backwards, dropping the spear in the process. As he hit the ground, he tried desperately to claw himself to a stop on the stone, but it did little given the force of the kick.

He was stuck laying there for a moment, the wind having been knocked out of him. But in that moment, the guard he’d originally attacked dashed for the spear that was formally in his possession, which was now on the ground, and grabbed it. Alongside that, the guard who’d kicked him came closer, spear raised threateningly. Cryoseism was powerless to do anything, his energy and concentration on trying to get his air back.

After a few precious seconds, he could breathe once more. But in those seconds, the world hadn’t stopped moving, and the tables had turned drastically. From this position, he lacked the element of surprise, a weapon, space to attack, and time to plan his moves. That wasn’t to mention the fact that the two dragons he’d been fighting seemed to be stronger than him already.

Still, he couldn’t give up. Not now, not without seeing his family again. He couldn’t leave Freezerburn to take his work. Couldn’t let Wintergreen worry and grieve over him. And he couldn’t let his innocent little siblings learn the truth of the cruel world. Not yet. They were too young. That’s why he had to survive. He wouldn’t die here.

So he stood up, looking for anything he could use, anything at all. It seemed like his frostbreath hadn’t been helpful in holding that guard in place, so it wouldn’t help. And although a couple sparks might be helpful in this situation, he knew he couldn’t last another half hour in this fight. He had to end it quickly. And he knew escape wasn’t an option, not anymore. Perhaps it had been in the second he’d been taking the weapon from the guard, but not anymore. He was surrounded and had lost his chance.

As a last attempt at trying to move even the odds, even if only a little bit, he tried hitting them with the spikes on his tail, to distract them just long enough to get a weapon. But the guard who he’d attacked at first grabbed his tail and pinned it to the ground, while the other guard pinned his wings as he fell from being tripped. There was a lack of hope in this situation, and he finally realized that now. He didn’t have a chance.

The leader finally moved forward, speaking with a glint in his eye. He said that it was a shame that a dragonet had been the one to do such a thing. That he really did need to up security. Yet that still, it had also that it had been an interesting result of a test, and that he would perhaps try it again. But more importantly, that he couldn’t let someone who’d seen the place escape.

But something the leader said in particular caught his ear the most. “Still, you performed admirably for your age. It’s a shame to have to kill you. So perhaps there is something of equivalent value you could offer in return for your life?”

Cryoseism froze. He wasn’t in the mood to negotiate, but it could be his only chance. Still, what in the world could be worth a life? Much less something he could offer? Despite being given a chance, it didn’t seem to help him. His thoughts continued racing, trying to think desperately. Nothing came to mind, and he doubted that even with more time he could come up with anything.

“Well? Do you have anything?” the leader asked, seeming to be running out of patience, signalling that he was out of time. When Cryoseism stayed silent, the dragon sighed. “A shame. You were indeed a rare performer.”

With that, the leader turned to the guards. “Kill him-” the dragon started, but never managed to finish, as a dragon slammed into him. For a moment, he wondered who it was. But the thought didn’t last for long, as Cryoseism’s eyes widened in horror as he realized who it was. Wintergreen, his mother, of all dragons, had found him and risked her life just to do that.

He felt himself trying to say something, but it only came out as some indiscernible sound. But even that was a mistake. Hearing him try to speak had caused Wintergreen to turn to him, concern in her gaze. As she did, there was only the quick glint of metal and a whooshing noise in the air as a long and thin line of red appeared on Wintergreen’s throat. Blood flowed fluidly and quietly down her neck as she gasped in shock, the look of pain in her eyes.

Cryoseism let out a cry of shock, trying to get over to his mother, but the moment he tried to move, one of the guards pressed down painfully against his wing. So all he could do was watch as Wintergreen gasped, inhaling her last breaths. She seemed to be mouthing something, but he could barely make out what. It seemed to be “Run, Cryoseism. Save yourself.”

He felt himself hesitate for a moment, still unable to move, and desperately not wanting to watch this. Yet, he couldn’t take his eyes off her, or he could miss something.

Just a few seconds later, she dropped to the ground, dead.

Cryoseism froze, but the leader just paused for a moment, seeming to think. “Interesting.” was all he said at first, seeming to think to himself. But then, he walked over to Cryoseism, looking down at him and speaking. “A life for a life.”

Without having to tell them audibly, or inaudibly, for that matter, the two guards released Cryoseism, leaving him lying there in shock for a moment. The three dragons just went further down into the cave, leaving him alone. Tears pricked at his eyes, and he crawled over to the still body on the ground. He tried to hug her, the last bit of his childish nature telling him that maybe it would all be alright. That it was just temporary. That Wintergreen would come back. Or maybe it was because of Solflare telling him all those fairy tales.

He cried there for a long while. It was all his fault. Because he had been stupid enough to venture down into the cave, and too weak to protect himself, she died. Wiping away his tears, he stood up, face hardening.

It was his fault. He had been too weak. So he would bear the burden in full.

He wasn’t strong enough to take her body back, so he had to leave her there. His delivery had all but been forgotten as he walked out of the cave, headed back to his home in a solemn haze. He knew Blizzard had to be done with what he was doing by now. For night had already fallen, and his siblings would be worried about him.

And Wintergreen, he thought with a pang of guilt and sadness. But he couldn’t cry anymore, his siblings were all he had left now. They deserved his full attention, and all his energy. He would devote his life to them.

Once he reached their house, he searched for Freezerburn first. From there, he could tell him what happened, and they could find a way to tell Solflare and Blizzard without truly telling them. It didn’t take him long to reach Freezerburn, who was playing with their siblings. Asking him to come over to him, Freezerburn saw the look on his face and told their younger siblings he had to go for a moment.

Cryoseism took Freezerburn to his room, and shut the door. Freezerburn asked where he had been, and if he knew where Wintergreen was. Slowly, Cryoseism nodded. And with a sigh, he began his story, recounting the events of the day, with Freezerburn’s face falling into more despair with each word. By the end, one wouldn’t be able to tell that his face had begun with a smile from being around his younger siblings. For such a thing was all but gone.

A few minutes passed as Freezerburn took it all in, processing it and sorting his thoughts. Cryoseism was fully prepared to be screamed at, berated, hit, hurt, anything. He could take it, if that was what Freezerburn needed to be alright. However, despite that, such a thing never came. Only quiet words from his older brother, the same thoughts echoed in his own mind.

“What do we tell Solflare and Blizzard?”

Cryoseism didn’t know, and it seemed that neither did his brother. So for the next while, they were still discussing what to do and what to tell their siblings. Eventually, they came to a conclusion- their younger siblings would be told that Wintergreen’s work had suddenly gotten very popular, so she had to take a trip far away for a while. Considering they were also just dragonets, despite their mature sense of duty, it was the best they could do.

But that wasn’t quite all. They knew their current state wouldn’t be able to get them enough money to survive. And Cryoseism, feeling responsible, finally knew what they had to do. He would go to the central Ice Kingdom and rise in the ranks of the central Ice Kingdom. It was their only chance.

When they told their younger siblings the cover story and where Cryoseism would be going for a while, they were disappointed and sad. They didn’t understand why he couldn’t stay, and didn’t understand why Wintergreen had to leave without saying goodbye. But, thankfully for the two older dragons, they weren’t as devastated as they would have been after being told the truth.

The next morning, reality set in, and he packed his things. Giving each of his siblings a hug, he told them he would miss them all. That he would come to visit them as soon as he could. After that, he headed off.

Cryoseism didn’t understand the central Ice Kingdom at first, but poured all his effort into learning. And before long, realized he had only a year left before he would be considered an “adult” ranking wise. So he had to work as fast and as diligently as possibly to raise his rank. This was his realization, and it was his new goal. After all, it was the way he could best serve his family.

So every hunt he could go on, every little thing he could do to raise his rank, he did. He would stop at nothing in order to succeed. Within about half a year, he’d managed to get near the top of the Fourth Circle. And considering how little time he had been there, he thought it was impressive. But he still didn’t consider it enough.

Because of the tedious and diplomatic ways of raising his rank, he would always be practicing his combat in his free time. It was his way of calming down, and his way of improving himself. It had been a particularly annoying day for him when something out of the ordinary happened.

Like normal, he was simply practicing his archery, a weapon he was weak with. But he felt like he was being watched. Still, though, he disregarded it as his imagination wanting someone, anyone, who was willing to fight him even at the risk of their rank. Or perhaps it was simply his loner ways finally getting to him, and it was a simple craving for normal interaction. But he doubted that, he had the letters from his siblings to cherish, and that was all he needed.

Regardless of the reason, he continued his practice and disregarded the feeling of being watched. It was going well, for the most part. But he reached a certain point, where he just couldn’t hit where he was aiming. Another arrow flew from his bow in an attempt to hit it. Two. Three. Five. Ten. Time passed and he couldn’t hit the mark.

Letting out a yell of annoyance, he unsheathed his sword and slashed through the training dummy easily, given his far superior expertise with swords compared to bows. As he stood there, staring down at the pieces of the training dummy on the ground, he heard footsteps before a few sarcastic claps.

“Bravo, bravo, what a show,” said the dragon walking up behind him. Hearing a voice, he whipped around, seeing an Icewing. She seemed to be a hybrid of sorts, judging by the four wings, but he disregarded it. As of now, he was more concerned by a couple other things.

The first was whether or not he’d been right, if a dragon, this dragon, had been watching him. The second was the clear feel of power radiating from her. And the third- what did she want?

A laugh, seeming to come from the dragon before him, interrupted his thoughts. Before he could ask what it was about, she spoke. “I’ve been… watching you the past couple of days. You do so much work to rank up, it almost seems obsessive. But you seem to have no interest in the Royal Family or anyone and anything here. So I just have one question for you- why?”

It was an easy question for him to answer. He just didn’t know if he wanted to say it to this dragon, who he’d never met. But he felt the sheer power this dragon possessed, despite not knowing where she was from or what she could do. He understood this was not a dragon he should lie to. So he answered, tell her the absolute truth- he did it for his family. To protect them.

A moment of silence passed, with her simply looking at him. Almost as though he’d made the wrong choice. But then it passed. She liked that answer. The dragon told him her name, Snowhawk, and how she worked for an organization called the Alliance on a place called Isle Mezzo. Told him she thought he’d make a great addition to it, given his work ethic and combat skill.

Cryoseism was intrigued, but he was no idiot. He wouldn’t simply agree to something without knowing what it was. So he asked, and she answered. Snowhawk told him about all the different missions Alliancers did, how they kept the peace between Kingdoms as best they could. How there were various resources they possessed, and that they could help him to achieve whatever it is he was trying to achieve.

He thought about it for a moment. As she had explained it, it seemed as though he could easily grow stronger there. And it seemed as though it would also be a good way to provide for his siblings. So, without much doubt left, he accepted her invitation.

Summary: Father left shortly after his two younger siblings, Solflare and Blizzard, hatched. Freezerburn and Cryoseism took up various little jobs to help Wintergreen provide for them, not wanting to expose their younger siblings to the cruel reality yet. After a while, while Cryoseism was delivering something, he heard something coming from a cave, saved a Rainwing, but got caught in the process. Tried to fight them off, but was no match for the guards. He was about to get killed, but through an agreement he didn’t like, when his mother tried to save him and subsequently got killed, he was allowed to go free. Telling Freezerburn the truth, the two of them came up with a lie to tell Solflare and Blizzard, and he went to the central Ice Kingdom in hopes to be able to provide more for his family, feeling responsible for everything. One day while he was training, he met an Alliancer, who had been watching his determination to climb in the ranks for a couple days, and was told he could become a trainee if he wanted. Seeing it as a way to grow stronger, he accepted.

Young Adult >

Cryoseism only had the time to send a letter back to his family before he and Emberiza left for Mezzo. She warned him it would be a tough flight and that they could take breaks whenever he needed them. It was an unknown route to him, having never left the Ice Kingdom, so Emberiza remained in the front. Frequently along the way, Emberiza asked if he needed to stop and rest, but he declined the offer every time. To him, if he couldn’t make a simple flight like this, he was unworthy of protecting his family.

Though, he underestimated the distance that Mezzo actually was from the Ice Kingdom. Given they had to travel the extra distance south from the Ice Kingdom, their journey took about three and a half days. Throughout those days, Cryoseism was restless to continue flying, but Emberiza made them take breaks every so often. Though, given she was older than him, she didn’t need to break for as long, and he wouldn’t admit to needing longer breaks.

So by the time they actually reached Mezzo, Cryoseism was thoroughly exhausted, not to mention hot. He hadn’t realized Mezzo was so warm compared to the Ice Kingdom. Seeing this, Emberiza told him it was alright to take a day or two to recover from the flight and adjust to Mezzo. But once again, like during the flight there, he said no. He wanted to begin training right away.

Emberiza laughed at his childish enthusiasm, and humored him by agreeing to it. She took the liberty of teaching him some basic fighting techniques, seeing as he seemed to be interested in that. He eagerly learned, but still couldn’t get over the heat compared to the Ice Kingdom, given the lack of down time. But he was convinced he just had to do it while he was training.

Yeah… he barely got through the second day of training before he looked bad enough for Emberiza to force him back to his room to rest and adjust. Begrudgingly, he did, laying down on his bed while thinking of ways to make up for the time lost. But Emberiza decided not to let him do that, deciding he should have a break from the training as well. So she told him a story about how the Alliance was founded to pass the time.

He was about to thank her for the story, but the moment he said “Snowhawk”, she stopped him. She said that she’d forgotten to tell him this, but that her real name was Emberiza. Snowhawk was just a name she went by as an alias on missions. For a moment, he was confused. After all, she had told him her name was Emberiza before she knew him, so why tell him this now? Also, why bother with an alias?

He voiced these concerns, and she cleared them up. Firstly, she went by an alias so that her lies wouldn’t be obviously exposed if she had to tell someone she didn’t know her name, but not her real name. By using an alias the Alliancers knew on missions, she could both protect her own identity and keep any lies told on the same page, getting rid of the issue of perhaps messing up her name if she couldn’t get the message across in time.

Then she made a comment about him needing the explanation because he was a dragonet.

Upon being called a dragonet, Cryoseism tried to dispute this. He wasn’t a dragonet anymore. He was truly an adult. She laughed, disagreed, and said until he proved otherwise, he would always be a child to her. But as he tried to dispute it once more, once he opened his mouth, she threw something at him. Though, she hadn’t seemed to have anything on her, so how had she gotten something to throw at him?

Without him even needing to voice such things, she just told him that she might teach him one day, but she might not. Just accepting it, he said “fine...” before adding one little word extra. “... Emberiza.” he said with a smirk. He got smacked for that, but they were both laughing. The rest of that day remained carefree as Cryoseism adjusted, and it was probably some of the most fun he’d had in a long time.

Of course, the next day was back to real training. He was happy about that, too, as it was the reason he had come. To learn more and improve himself. Emberiza, or rather, Snowhawk, as he quickly learned to call her, understood this, and did teach him a lot. For the first few months, it was almost all physical training and fighting techniques. But then, one day, when Cryoseism arrived at their usual meetup spot, all he saw was a note. It told him to come to the Spire of Illumination.

Slightly confused, but willing to follow the instructions she left. So, going to the Spire of Illumination, he looked for his mentor. Seeing her near the entrance, she walked up to him, saying she was glad he had found her note. He asked why she had brought him there, and she gave him one answer- today it would be about books. “Boring, I know,” she said. “But a necessary thing to do every so often.”

He asked why not the Spire of Whispers, considering she wasn’t an Illumote and shouldn’t be able to get into the Illumination Spire library, and she just responded with a cocky little “watch me” look. So, once they reached it, she tried to walk right in, but another Alliancer saw this and called her out almost immediately.

“Did you finally switch Orders, Snowhawk? That guy looks a bit young to be an Illumote, so either you’re giving him a tour or you’re just trying to sneak in again.” Was all the dragon said. But Emberiza didn’t let it faze her, instead recovering almost instantly.

“Yes, what you said, definitely a tour. Nothing suspicious here.”

The other dragon wasn’t too trusting of that. It seemed he’d seen Emberiza try to do this before. “Oh, really? Then by all means, allow me to accompany you along the way, to make sure you don’t get lost. You’d be fine with that if you were just giving a tour, right?”

Upon hearing this, he glanced at Emberiza silently asking what to do. She gave him a look he knew the meaning of all too well. “On three, we run.” she whispered to him. “Three!” she said, skipping the other numbers, as the two hurried down the hall. Cryoseism didn’t get why she’d dragged him into this, but they stopped once they were in the Spire of Whispers. Catching their breath, the two of them walked into the library in her true Spire without a problem.

He asked her why she’d done that, and she simply responded with “why not”. He just facepalmed(facetaloned?), before following her to the section she was going to. Sitting down at a table, she gave him a book and told him to read a couple sections of it, and he did, without much of a second thought. It was kind of boring, but if she was having him read it there had to be some other reason for it other than to bore him to death.

Of course, once he had finished, she slid him a form, telling him that with his newfound knowledge, he should fill it out as though he were her. He took one look at the form and understood everything. But he wouldn’t just give up so easily. So he filled it out, but without taking anything seriously. To put it simply, if she wanted him to do her paperwork, she’d have to try harder than that.

Giving it back to her, she read over it before her face went red. Seeing this, he couldn’t help but laugh at her. All he said was “that’s what you get for trying to make me do your paperwork”, and they both laughed nearly to tears. After that little incident, though, she simply gave him a couple books about tribe history to read while she actually did her paperwork, despite not wanting to.

His traineeship continued as such for two years, with Emberiza slowly trusting him to do more and more with her the more experience he got. It was an interesting experience for him to follow her on Whisperling missions, as he preferred head on conflict rather than working from the shadows. She told him that for precisely that reason, he should come to terms with doing both. Besides, even if he didn’t end up a Whisperling like her, he should still have experience of missions.

As his training continued, even after the two year mark, she hadn’t decided to let him graduate into the Alliance just yet. Said that he was still a child to her. So he asked how to be an “adult” in her eyes. She laughed, and said first off to not ask how. Then she thought for a moment, before realizing something.

“Hey, you still don’t have an alias, do you? You’ve just been using your real name,” she said to him, and he nodded. “Pick one and maybe I’ll let you become a full-fledged Alliance member.”

He was about to say ‘It’s really that easy?’ but after knowing Emberiza for so long, he knew that would get rid of any chance he had. So, he thought of what to say that would make Emberiza happy with his answer. But this would also most definitely be something he would go by for at least a long while, so it had to be something he actually liked.

So he thought back, across the things he’d been called. But he settled on one moment in his past, one day so many years ago, back before Wintergreen had… he chose not to continue that sentence. So he answered her, speaking the truth. “Alright, easy enough. I’ll be Childe. It’s both a unique alias I doubt anyone else would use, along with what you call me regardless. It’ll save both you and me the trouble, and it’s… not the first time I’ve been called as such.”

She seemed to almost laugh, but nodded, in approval. “It suits you,” she said. “Besides, you’re right about one thing- I’d be calling you a child either way. It just saves me some breath now. But still, you’ve been called that before?”

He sighed. “By my younger sister, Solflare.”

That was the end of him. She doubled over laughed, unable to take it. “Ha- hahaha- you were called a child by your younger sibling- hahahaha- ha” And just earned an eye roll from Cryoseism. After she calmed down, she told him that tomorrow she would see if they could do the sorting ceremony for him. He still couldn’t believe choosing an alias was seriously the last thing on her agenda of training him though.

So, the next morning, she took him to the Orb of Unity, the ceremony having already been set up. Somehow, he had his doubts that the day before had been what convinced her to let him graduate. It was most likely something before that, considering it would be hard to set up such a thing on such short notice. But he would never know for sure.

As he walked into the grand room where the ceremony would be held, he saw the Council of Six, and somehow, his siblings. He was shocked upon seeing this, it had been two years of only being able to send them letters instead of seeing them. He didn’t know how Emberiza had managed to find them or how they had gotten there, but he didn’t care. He was so happy to see them.

Still, he had to stifle his joy momentarily and listen to what the Council of Six had to say, before finally grasping the Orb of Unity within his talons. Without much surprise from Emberiza or himself, the orb turned red, symbolizing his place as one who would be in the Order of the Shield. After that, the Council of Six congratulated him, before eventually going off back to do whatever it is the Six do.

Emberiza lightly punched his side, saying it was sad he wasn’t in her order, so they probably wouldn’t get as many missions together. But also that she knew he probably wanted to spend time with them, so she’d handle all the annoying stuff for him and let him hang out with his family for a little while. And he did.

Cryoseism told them of all his adventures, despite having already told them through the various letters sent back to them. He asked them how they had been, and what they had been doing. He took them to his favorite places in Mezzo, and gave them just about anything they wanted. It was a very fun day for him, probably one of the memories he holds closest to his heart.

After it had all settled down, his family slept in a hotel on Mezzo, while he spent his last night in the trainee dorms. Soon after, in the morning, he went with them back to the Ice Kingdom, to see the home he’d been away from for years. He took those couple of days to be with his siblings, as Emberiza had said she would handle it all. So those few days were quite enjoyable for him, getting to catch up with Freezerburn and play with his younger siblings Solflare and Blizzard.

However, after just about a week, he received a letter saying he had to come back to Mezzo, as it was urgent. Apologizing to his siblings for having to leave so suddenly, and giving them all a warm goodbye, he headed back. Once he reached Mezzo, he looked for whatever it was he was supposed to be doing, but before long, he found an all too familiar face. Because the “urgent business”?

… It was just Emberiza pranking him.

Still, after that, she showed him his new room, and she told him that she had taken the liberty to move all his old stuff to it as well. He thanked her, but still was a bit annoyed about the prank. Still, since then, he’s been enjoying the Shieldite life, sending letters back to his family at every opportunity, and enjoying reading the ones he received more than anything.

Summary: Trained with Emberiza, however learned that she wanted him to call her Snowhawk as a sort of alias, rather than her real name, for a number of reasons. She did both physical and mental training for him, along with taking him on some of her Whisperling missions. He wasn’t exactly fond of the approach Whisperlings take on their missions, but she told him that was precisely why he should get the experience. After a bit over two years of training, Cryoseism asked her why, even after two years, he was still a trainee. She told him it was because he was still a child to her, and after some conversation, she told him that if he chose an alias to go by she’d let him graduate. So, he chose to go by “Childe” for a number of reasons. He was sorted into the Order of the Shield.

Lost in the Blizzard parts 1&2 >

I had this fantastic summary of this quest RP but DA decided to glitch and delete everything. I’ll redo it someday. But that day is not today.

Origin Story of the Swords >

Again, I had this fantastic over a page long piece of history that DA decided to delete. I’ll rewrite it soon, since it’s important. But basically, on his fly back to Mezzo from the Ice Kingdom(just after the Blizzard quest), he stopped on an island, when someone called out his name. He didn’t know who they were, but they sounded familiar. They attacked him, and he defended himself, but saw some fire that melted his ice. This was strange, since the one who attacked him was a Rainwing.

After some explanation and re-introductions, he found that the Rainwing was Hoatzin(from back in his backstory). After explaining what she did after the incident where Cryoseism had saved her, told him how to use the elemental swords and gave them to him. Also she’d clearly grown to be a good opponent so Cryo wanted to face her again once his arm healed. Hoatzin also told him how to contact her, and then Cryo went back to Mezzo. The end.

(very paraphrased because the previous version took me an hour and a half and now it’s gone forever)

BANS: Hybrid, Major Custom

CHARACTER CREATION VARIANTS: None

Elemental Sword Information:

-Can appear/disappear at the will of the user

-Different “special effects” depending on the element

-Breaking the blade of any given element takes 2-3 hours to regrow for that element, but the full blade is still there for the other elements

-Breaking the hilt causes the entire sword to break and the magic to leave it

-The two swords are separate and function as such. They don’t have to be the same element at the same time(one could be water and one could be fire). One could be lent out and would be totally unaffected by the condition of the other sword.

-Five elements: rock, fire, ice, water, and wind. Can also take an “element-less” state where it’s just the hilt and no elemental blade.

The “special effects” are the following:

Rock: flings rock projectiles at the opponent

Fire: burns and cauterizes

Ice: grows pointy spikey bits on the sword, also relatively cold to the touch of anyone but the wielder(as in like frozen metal in winter cold)

Water: "flexible" sword

Wind: weak wind currents that can lightly affect the course of projectiles or the way fire's blowing
