….Okay, so the best way I can explain how this all happened was I saw The Nutcracker and The Four Realms trailer a year ago and it looked really good. Fast forward to now, (it ended up being a terrible film, unfortunately.) BUT! The trailer for it is still absolutely gorgeous, and I was completely frustrated with the idiotic plot, or lack of plot that Disney came up with for it, so I dug deep and went back to my very top secret hidden away DWD AU I came up with last year….which is this. Feel free to read below if you'd like to know the story behind it all!
Basically Gosalyn discovers a hidden secret in her grandfather’s home- a rift that carries her into a new world and dimension all together. There she meets the Sugar Plum Fairy, Binkie, who tells her the land has been frozen over by a cursed spell from an evil sorceress, and their prince has gone missing and cannot defend their kingdom from the evils that have taken over.
Gosalyn ends up venturing off into The Land of Amusement, where she meets a toymaker, Quackerjack, who has the ability to turn people into living toys. She picks up a purple Nutcracker and he becomes enraged and tries to take it back from her.
She makes off with it and ends up running into the next territory, The Darkland, which is ruled over by The Rat King, Megavolt. Once believed to have been a loyal servant to the palace, he has since been banished and forced to live underground. Having gone mad since then, he hordes all the light in the land, controlling who can and cannot use it. He sends his little robotic rats into other territories to steal anything that can be used to make light, any scraps of metal, or anything shiny or of general interest, basically.
They end up coming across Gosalyn and her Nutcracker, so they try to take it from her. Eventually they manage to gang up on her in large numbers and try to pull her into one of their many dark tunnels below the surface, but through the magic of….well, Disney magic, the Nutcracker comes to life! He fights off the horde and reveals his true identity to be Prince Drake, the rightful ruler of Kingdom Dubon!
It is then revealed that the sorceress who cast the spell of ice across the land is none other than Prince Drake’s lost love, Morgana! She was so distraught at his disappearance, she couldn’t bear to be without him, and so she placed a curse over herself, that she wouldn’t be able to feel the heartbreak and loss anymore, but her spell backfired, turning it to ice. As a result, the curse grew, and the only way all can be restored again is if Prince Drake braves the storm and delivers what else, but true love’s kiss (DUH.)
Thanking Gosalyn for getting him out of the hands of the insane toymaker, he vows to protect her from harm and says he will accompany her home…to which she completely refuses to go towards, and insists they see the journey through together.
Relenting, reluctantly, the Prince and her travel to the frozen castle, where it’s revealed that Prince Drake’s evil brother Negaduck was at the helm of it all! He wanted control over the kingdom and conspired against him to have the Prince kidnapped and turned into a toy, meant to be locked away forever without any hope of returning.
They spar in some epic way, and then Negaduck is defeated, Morgana is reunited with her love, the ice around the land thaws, and it’s a happy ending, as is Disney tradition.
ANYWAY, this was entirely stupid and self indulgent and I’m so happy I was finally able to get some concept art out! I’ve had this in my head for so long. Each outfit was inspired by a character from the film, and I also tried to sneak in colors that each character normally would wear from the show, sort of like this whole thing was a Christmas dream that Gosalyn had or something.
