Description The F-35 has had, to put it mildly, a rocky start in its development. None more so that the B variant. Because of it's STOVL capabilities, the B variant has had a lot of teething issues but eventually it began to be delivered to buyers. One of them was the Japanese Maritime Self Defense Force. Following the urgency to get the Japanese Self Defense Force up to speed to meet the rising threat of China, the Maritime Self Defense Force began to invest into the development of aircraft carriers. At the time, they only had their helicopter destroyers in which they were then upgraded to allow the F-35B to fly off of. The timing of this could not have been perfect as the Third World War had begun.

In the beginning stages of the war, the Chinese military launched a surprise attack on the Japanese Home Islands, destroying 20% of the JASDF, many of them on the ground. With the U.S Navy's defeat in the Sea of Japan, the Chinese began an invasion of Japan and Taiwan. Of all the aircraft that were able to meet the invasion, the F-35Bs of the Maritime Self Defense Force were the ones that did their best to hold the line. One particular squadron would be wiped out to the last pilot holding off a mass aerial attack on Tokyo, but dealing significant damage to the Chinese air forces. Reinforcements from the United States, Australia, and New Zealand along with additional Lightnings was the saving grace for the Japanese.

The F-35B, despite its flaws, proved to be more than a match to the Chinese fighters. When compared to the J-15 and J-11, the Lightning far exceeded expectations. Only when going up against the J-20, the Lightning was at a disadvantage due to the J-20s being made to specialize for dogfighting.

This F-35B is piloted by Lieutenant Yuna Hinamoto of the 18th Naval Fighter Squadron "The White Dragons" from the JS Kaga, a helicopter destroyer initially but later converted into an aircraft carrier during the war. She is known as "The Blue Swallow" and earned the coveted title "Ace in a Day" by shooting down 5 Chinese aircraft in a single day, 3 J-15s and 2 JH-7s. She also is known to have used the STOVL capability of the F-35B to launch ambush attacks against unsuspecting Chinese fighters. She would rack up a kill score of 60 enemy aircraft shot down. Currently, she and her squadron are attached to the UNFS Vulture, escorting a resupply fleet to Europe.

Hi, so here is another aircraft that will be featured in my fanfic. Once again shoutout to Jetfreak-7 for the drawing. This is one of his old ones I asked him to do about 5 years ago and now it can finally be used in my fanfic. I will be posting a link to the fanfic on here soon so stay tuned to that.

Until next time.
