Legolas has often been portrayed as feminine, but was described by Tolkien as powerful and athletic, as showcased by his ease of movement in various harsh landscapes. Also, the use of a bow requires great strength and dexterity, as most medieval long bowman would have been incredibly fit and well built. Therefore Legolas should look the part.
