Description
Name: Iridescent Flint BeetleScientific Name: Pilli envelopens
Family: Flint Beetle
Often hiding just below the surface, these nocturnal beetles spend most of the day underground, especially during winter, but they will emerge when disturbed. They are purely herbivores, preferring to consume pellets dropped from Pellet Posies. A curious trait is that these pellets sometimes aren't digested right away, instead being stored in an airtight membrane in it's stomach for up to six months. This membrane seems to be made of the same material that gives it's exoskeleton the sheen that gives the beetle its name. This shell is hard enough to deter most attacks, though a hard blow from above can cause them to spit out stored pellets.

Valkyra's comment: The Pikmin really seem intent on chasing these guys around when they pop up. Given what these beetles carry, I don't blame them.
Phoenix's comment: It's not just pellets these things can spit up. Sometimes you get nectar too.
Drago's comment: These guys are a constant reminder that I need to improve my aim with my throwing arm. They always seem to get away from me.
Amber's Notes: I heard there's a larger subspecies of these guys with antennae that look like a fancy mustache. Wonder if we'll run into one at some point.
Debbie's comment: Personally these guys aren't worth the effort. I mean, why run them down for pellets when you have plenty of the posies RIGHT THERE? But maybe it's just cause I can't throw Pikmin at them cause... well... no arms.
